Women don't owe you pretty is written by a young British activist named Florence Given. It is a book for girls of any age that helps them navigate their way through modern day life and society. It gives great advice on loads of different situations and things like social media. It encourages women to challenge out-dated narratives an stick up for themselves and what they stand for.

I recommend this book because it speaks about mental health and real life problems. It starts off as Charlie (the main character) is writing in his journal about his life and how his summer went, with his friend committing suicide and being bullied in school. He has fallen into a cycle of depression and is starting his first day of high school tomorrow which he is terrified about. He then talks about the struggle of making friends and maintaining friendships. Having finally found supporting friends Charlie falls out of his cycle of depression but fights happen with them and then he falls back again into his cycle of depression. After a few days him and his friends make up and then he is leaving for college. He stays in contact with his friends and talks about how he is fighting battle through his depression daily.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend it to a person of any age because I think that it portrayed the mental illness in a different way than most people see it. Samantha is someone with a normal life that is part of the ‘popular group’ but isn’t really happy. Then she finds real friends who she feels she can speak to about her OCD. I like how the book shows the difference between the fake friendship where Sam feels the need to hide the fact that she has OCD, and a real supportive group of friends Samantha knows she can trust. I also love the reality of the book in the way that Samantha finds it hard to leave her old friends behind. I think it conveys a good message to people reading it, specifically teenagers.

City of Ember (Max)

The book I would like to recommend, is “The City of Ember” by Jeanne Du Prau. It is a fictional book based in a city underground due to the earth being a place of war and havoc. The story follows the lives of two teenagers who discover their city is on the verge of running down and that it isn’t just a city shrouded in darkness and there is more to the world around them.
I really enjoyed reading this novel because I found it very tense and some points and I really got into the theme of adventure in it. I was gripped by the tension and the moments of traitorship that occurred and some moments the reader couldn’t anticipate what was going to happen. It is also set in a very different world that has some similar aspects to it. For example, our world isn’t set in complete darkness and if our lights turn off there is panic because of the moon shining but, our world is torn by wars and diseases in some areas. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a sense of adventure.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay is a book that I highly recommend and a book that I really enjoyed reading (even the fourth time!) as the book never gets old.

It is the third and final book to The Hunger Games trilogy. In this book the districts take control of the capitol which has ruled over them for the past 75 years putting them to work while they live a life of luxury. In this book Katniss, the protagonist, helps lead battle into the capitol and take control. This book is action packed and is a real page turner leaving you always needing to know what will happen next. I would really recommend this book to a friend.

Little Women is an exciting book based on 4 sisters Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth. The book tells the story of the sisters' adventures, friendships and everyday life during the 19th century. The girls aren’t rich or poor but comfortable and I wouldn’t say they

act as the ordinary 19th century girl would. They also live next door to Laurie (Theodore Laurence) who lives with his grandad Mr Laurence who is a family friend. The story also tells the story of how Laurie became friends with one of the girls.

I would highly recommend this book to someone who’s seeking that same feeling they once felt as a child. This book takes you there and reminds you of the adventures and creative fantasy just one little mind can come up with on their own . It takes you through the exciting journey this boy has gone on and it also unlocks those deep memories you had as a playful child. Somethings that can feel so big and scary or doing something so “naughty” and looking back and realising it was really nothing to fear. It’s a great blood pumper for a child mixing fear and thrills and adrenaline and the perfectly balanced mysteriousness into a child’s book not making it too scary but exciting!

My book recommendation would be any of the Ross O’ Carroll Kelly books. I enjoyed reading these books as they are very humorous and are set in Ireland, making it relatable. It is a very stereotypical book about a guy in South Dublin, and this is why I enjoyed it. I would give it a 5/5 rating.

He seems to be plotting to kill Harry, but there is a stunning twist in the end. There is comedy, friendship, danger and excitement in the story. It is well written and has an interesting plot. I think you would really like it if you read it.
