Women have been and are beginning to become more independent. Opression for women still exists today, but is more prominent in different aspects than it was earlier in history. Women were beat and raped on a daily basis. Rape still exists in most places today, but is not quite as normal as it used to be. African Americans are beginning to have their own movements to stand up for themselves. Racism against black women is still an issue, but they are slowly progressing towards a more equal society.
