“The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was activated on February 1, 1943, and was composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry, also known as the Nisei (The Unwritten Record).” This shows the US gave the Japanese the opportunity to serve in the Army once again. The US deployed the Japanese from the camps to serve and prove they were loyal. “If he said NO NO, he could be sent to Lake Camp in Northern California where all the ‘disloyal’ were to be assembled for what most people believed would be even repatriation to Japan. (Houston pg.77).” As the US asked for help the US  needed loyal Japanese soldiers. This was a new opportunity for the Japanese to prove they were loyal and they could be taken out of the camps.  The US made a good decision in placing faith and trust  in the Japanese to win the war. 

 “In September 1944 the 422nd participated in the invasion of South France successfully beating French cities from Nazi occupation.(The National WW2 Museum).” This reveals the Japanese were very helpful in the wars and helped others. They proved their skills and strengths to the US. The Japanese proved their loyalty, skills and that they were sincerely good to the US. 

In the memoir, the authors  help understand what went on, how they were treated and the opportunity the Japanese were given to prove themselves again. 

Woody was ready for whenever they were called upon. "The next to go was Woody who, in August 1944, had been drafted” “His unit was called up in November” (Houston 95) Woody went with honor.

Even though Woody and his family had wrongfully been placed into the internment camps, he still wanted to help the country he calls home. As we see here, Papa says “What if you refused to answer the letter" and Woody responds. "It’s my duty” (Houston 95)

Houston explained that Woody was “anxious to prove to the world his loyalty, his manhood, something about his family honor” (Houston 96) Woody was eager to prove himself.

Overall even though the people asking for help were the people who put them in the camps he still was loyal and loved his country, therefor he answered Yes, Yes to the questions "Are you willing to serve in the armed forces of the United States on combat duty, wherever ordered? Will you swear unqualified allegiance to the United States of America and faithfully defend the United States from any and all attacks by foreign and domestic forces, and forswear any form of allegiance or disobedience to the Japanese Emperor, or any other foreign government, power, or organization?"
