While at the tavern, Isabel asks Jenny, a friend of her mother's, to buy them. Jenny refuses and says she dare not.

In both cases of hypocrisy in history and in Chains, both people said one thing then went against their word. Hillary Clinton voted not to spy but then went ahead and spied herself. Jenny said she could not buy the girls but then made an offer when it was a bit too late.

However, these examples are very different in ways. Starting with Hillary Clinton, her vote could have changed much more than Jenny buying the girls could have. The vote could have been the deciding one to proceed with the matter, or exterminate it immediately. Yes, Jenny buying Ruth and Isabel could have changed many things but it is fiction. Hillary Clinton and the vote are in real life.
