When I was younger, I didn't know much about the world or how bitter things could get. I only knew about the good channels to watch or which stuffed animal to bring to the playground. As I started to grow up the idea of being thinner, prettier, and have these unachievable goals began to fill my head. I despised the way I looked. The clothes I wore. On-top of my self esteem downfalling the academic strive my parents set up for me completely destroyed my way of thinking. The only thoughts that filled my head were whether not I should eat that day or if I was smart enough for my parent's liking. I was tumbling down, with each passing step I took to stand up-- I was hit back down. I lost the confidence that I so desired, and gave up. Things weren't looking better as the months went by. I was just a kid, who believed that if a number on a scale was 'too high' I would be consider hideous, plain, and not beautiful. I lost weight. Studied harder. Used my earned money to buy beauty products. I did everything I could, so that in my eyes I would be considered 'perfect'. Regardless of how many times people told me I was pretty, I never felt like it. But, as time went by the beauty standards had changed, and they will change. No one can keep up with the trends, and I had the slow realization of my self-worth. I knew that the unrealistic standards I had set for myself where unaccomplishable no matter how much I tired. The years went by, and I began to respect myself for who I am. I'm not quick on my feet. I'm not what you would see as 'the beauty standard'. Nor am I the smartest. I am well aware of that, but I still try. I try my hardest on the tests I take. I try my hardest to eat food without worrying I'll gain weight. With the tries I take, I don't push myself down like I used too. Self-worth and dedication carried me through-- I know that in the future these exact character traits will help me pass life's challenges.

I was never good at math. I still am awful at it. I'm starting to think people are changing the rules just to confuse me. Everything about it confuses me. For starters; Micheal can find what happened to the chocolate chip cookies for the field trip-- by himself. But, then again, I truly don't have a choice on whether or not I wish to solve it. I remember I would get so upset whenever I was unable to solve the problems that I either not eat or just cry. Might've over exaggerated a bit, but I was always pressured to not just be the best I possibly could, but stretch the limit. When I couldn't reach the goal, I thought I wasn't good enough, or something was wrong with me. It's a bit ironic since my parents are geniuses, I guess I got some bad genes. This example doesn't just go along with math but with my daily life. If I couldn't read something properly in class because I was too anxious, I would pick at my fingers, till they would bleed.
As everyone in math finished their homework in class, I was always still stuck on the second problem. I wouldn't ask for help because I was afraid people would laugh at me. So I stayed quiet. Time and time again, I kept my mouth shut hoping a lightbulb would just pop into my mind. Unfortunately, sooner or later, my mom found out about my dropping grades and I certainly got a lecture-- along with a few wooden cooking sticks popping up here and there. Though I truly haven't progressed much in math, I stopped putting myself down for every problem I can't solve. I dedicated most of my time to study, instead of doing something else. I still have a lot of improvement to do, but with with dedication and self-worth accomplishing life's given obstacles is child's play.
