May feature elements such as widened pavements and expanded bike networks or spaces previously used for parking to be repurposed for more social interaction such as outdoor dining or play areas for children (Early C, 2022).

The 15-minute city is a concept created by Carlos Moreno to combat what he described as “absurd organization” of urban life including aspects such as a 45-minute drive to work. His proposed solution was the 15-minute city (Early C., 2022).

A district refers to a group of neighbourhoods in close proximity to one another within a greater city (City of Edmonton, 2023). 

The City of Edmonton website describes this as a “community of communities- Small towns in our big city, where people can meet many of their daily needs within 15 minutes from where they live” (City of Edmonton, 2023).

The main concerns being spread are restrictions on people's movement, use of their personal vehicles, and loss of privacy through surveillance. Additionally, the concept raises concern as it has been discussed as being promoted by the World Economic Forum, which is at the centre of many COVID-19 conspiracy theories (Butterfield, 2023).
