Katniss Everdeen is strong, resourceful and is far more mature than her age would suggest.

"I'm Still Standing" by Elton John

"Don't you know that I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind."

This whole verse clearly reinforces the main ideas in "Self-Reliant". This is particular clear in the last line which states," Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind." The phrase claims that an individual was able to put their life back together and forget person that shattered it. Similar to the text, this line embodies the idea that you need to help yourself and be able to not depend on anyone to pick you up when you fall- be able to do it yourself.

Considered one of the most important figures in the world's largest religion, The Virgin Mary's greatness was definitely misunderstood. Society only saw her from the outside, someone who was pregnant despite only being engaged. Even her own fiancee Joseph was disgusted at the idea of her being pregnant without being married. Society clearly didn't see the impact her life would eventually have on the world.

Relation to Chris McCandless

Chris McCandless completely embodies the idea of self-reliance. Discovering that," Envy is ignorance" and that," Imitation is suicide", McCandless realized you can't expect anything to be handed to you and that you can only truly depend on yourself. McCandless embodied greatness- depending on who you asked- and attempted to be completely self-reliant. He fled into the Alaskan wilderness in an attempt to achieve his perception of a fulfilling life. "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you
peace but the triumph of principles."
