Brooklands PE Department by Miss Tipper

Brooklands PE is firmly based on inclusion. Every student is strongly encouraged to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Students have access to a wide range of sporting activities throughout the year, regardless of age, ability or gender. This year we have added BMX Academy, Horse Riding and Skateboarding to our opportunities for pupils

Mrs Hodgson and Miss Tipper had the privilege of going to the House of Commons and then on to a presentation Ceremony to celebrate Eden winning the YST Inspirational Inclusive Leader Award.

Eden was born with Achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism, as well as epilepsy, which is currently controlled. Mum, Emma, describes her as having guts and determination and her whole family are incredibly proud.

Eden is a YST Girls Active leader. The Girls Active programme aims to tackle the barriers girls experience and through cultivating a movement of girls and young women, empower them to take positive action through influencing, leading, and inspiring their peers. She is inspirational to the girls at the club. She is always encouraging and helping them. When they are finding things a little bit difficult Eden is always there for them. She talks about her own struggles in life and how her anxiety can have an impact on her.

Head of PE at Brooklands Middle School, Miss Tipper nominated Eden as she is just an inspiration to everyone and goes above and beyond. She has helped so many girls at Brooklands to overcome their barriers in life. Eden stole the show at the awards evening with her 5 minute interview with Hannah Cockroft.

Head Teacher Mrs Hodgson said “It was an absolute honour to see Eden rewarded in this way for all that she does. She is an inspiration to others and this award has motivated her to do even more.”

Brooklands Middle School Year 7 football team saw their historic cup run come to an end in a hard-fought semi-final against St Mary’s College. Despite the loss, the team's journey to this stage has been nothing short of remarkable, marking their best-ever performance in the competition.

The adventure began with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Thorpe House All Boys School, setting the stage for a series of impressive wins. Federico's hat-trick led the charge in a 4-1 win against Edwinstree Middle School, followed by Eli's hat-trick heroics in a 3-2 victory over Langtree, where Brooklands overcame a very tough team but also some very wintery conditions. The team continued their dominant form with a 6-2 win against Codsall Middle School in the round of 16 and a very nervy but battling 2-1 victory against a very strong Repton Preparatory School in the quarter-final.

Throughout the campaign, the team displayed exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination. Mr. Evans and Mr. Fullwood, the team's coaches, expressed immense pride in the players' achievements and growth. "We are incredibly proud of each and every player," said Mr. Evans. "Their commitment and passion for the game have been outstanding. Reaching the semi-final is a testament to their hard work and dedication." Whilst we know the team were disappointed to go out in the semi-finals, the team can hold their heads high, knowing they have made history for Brooklands Middle School.

Year 8 Girls are District Champions!!

Brooklands went head to head against Gilberts in the district cup final today. The third occasion in which both team have been drawn to play each other.

The game started well, Brooklands were on the front foot and pressed well creating a few opportunities early on but were unable to take advantage of them. Brooklands got themselves a corner after about 15 minutes which delivered into a dangerous area which was met by Ellie and thundered past the keeper to make it 1-0.

As the half went on, Brooklands dug their heels in, Gilberts began to find their rhythm in the game creating a real spectacle to watch. The game would have been 1-1 had Marcelina not brilliantly tipped a header onto the bar and then retrieved it off the line to keep the game at 1-0 to Brooklands.

The second half started much of the same, both teams battling it out to try and find a goal. Gilberts really pushed the Brooklands backline hard, but they stood strong and stopped everything that was thrown at them and managed to hold onto the win to make the district champions in their last ever game for Brooklands, what a way to go out!

Credit to a brilliant Gilberts side who made the game brilliant to watch in a game that could have gone either way.

Thank you to Vandyke for hosting and for sorting the officials for the game. Also, a thank you to Zach for supporting Mr Evans and Miss Tipper.

Ellie-

Izzy-

Players of the Match

Grace & Livvy

After a phenomenal run in the National Cup, Brooklands also made it to the final of the district cup where the faced a tough Houstone team. A team that they earlier lost to in the group stages.

The game started slowly for Brooklands allowing Houstone to start quickly and dominate possession early on. Houstone broke the deadlock from a corner to make the game 1-0.

Brooklands pushed, they found themselves with their first corner of the match where they won a penalty which was converted calmly by Zach to bring the game to half time and 1-1.

The second half started much of the same, Houstone started strong and dominated the opening 16 minutes and hit Brooklands twice to make it 3-1.

Cue the dramatic comeback music.

A flurry of changes put Brooklands on the front foot. Brooklands were awarded a penalty when Eli was brought down in the area. He won it and then calmly stepped up and slotted it home to make it 3-2.

Brooklands had their heads up, the pushed and had a bit of belief behind them, Eli popped up again to follow up on a mistake between the defence and the keeper 3-3!!

The game looked like it was heading to penalties, until…. A long ball over the top was latched on to by Eli who completed his hatrick and to give the boys a 4-3 win. An excellent performance from a team who have shown all year that they do not give up.

A pleasure to coach, watch and enjoy the journey with this year.

Eli-

Zach-

Man of the Match- Eli

Brooklands year 6 faced a tough opposition in Arnold Academy in the county cup final on Wednesday, the game was played at an excellent standard.

Brooklands fought all over the pitch against a well organised Arnold side and certainly put in there to try and come out on top.

A few standout performances on the night came from Hayden in midfield who battled his way through Arnold on several occasions and showed a real determination on the pitch. The second being Finlay in goal who had a brilliant game making some top saves who received man of the match voted for by both teams coaches.

Unfortunately the result isn’t what the boys wanted this time around, however, this was a brilliant first season for the team together, finishing runners up for the county of Bedfordshire. A sign of things to come over the next few years. They are truly a credit to the school.
