Reinventing Privacy Policy

The social media tool I chose to base a privacy policy on is the 'tag' tool on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The 'tag' tool on these social media apps allows users to tag any profile with their post, whether it is a written post or picture. Once the profile is 'tagged' and posted, any user who comes across the post can click onto your profile. My privacy policy would be to include the right of consent. To 'tag' another user, you must request permission from the user being tagged to involve them in the post. This privacy policy provides a sense of security, as users would no longer be able to 'tag' your profile in any given post. It also provides the right to know who is requesting to attach your profile to a post and why. On social media profiles, you are also able to see the users 'tags', this new privacy policy would protect a person's digital profile as they would be able to control what tagged posts would be visible on their profile. After receiving my peer's feedback on my e-portfolio, they suggested to find other policies that were similar and if they were successful. So I began to do some research on other privacy policies on social media apps that were similar to my own privacy policy. What I found was that the main solution to protecting your online profile was to block any unwelcomed accounts that were trying to tag you in posts. Although it does not entirely stop someone from tagging you in a post, it does give you the right to control what tagged posts are shown on your profile, by blocking any users that are trying to tag you in posts the post is not visible on your profile.

This module and this e-portfolio has helped my overall understanding of what a digital strategy is, and how by creating my own digital strategies can influence my digital presence which is a big part of many aspects of my life. When working on my e-portfolio 2, I was able to receive the feedback from my work in e-portfolio 1 and address the mistakes I made in the first e-portfolio and learn from these mistakes and develop a better understanding of what a successful e-portfolio is supposed to look like. I found working on this e-portfolio a lot easier as I had already completed the first one and I had useful feedback on how I could improve my work. One aspect that I found to be very helpful was the peerScholar exercise. After the peer review feedback I received, I was given different perspectives of how I can develop my digital strategies regarding my digital presence. Although I felt satisfied with my draft when submitting it to peerScholar, I was told to develop certain areas that I wouldn't have originally thought about, which definitely helped my final work. This module has given me a new perspective on how important it is to develop my online presence and how much it influences many aspects of my life including work and studying (So-Sum Wai-Cook, 2021). I also included a lot more sources than I did in my previous e-portfolio:

Wai-COOK, M. S. (2021).
