Ta'rif al-Quran:

-> Known as Book of Guidance written in Arabic language

-> Unchanged until the Qiamah (Day of Judgement)

-> Allah teaches us through al-Quran

-> Including the stories of the previous prophets, laws related to the knowledge of Tawheed, Fiqh and Ethics and the situation on the Day of Judgment

All the components included in the 5 Pillars of Islam:

• Declaration of Faith (Shahadah)

• Obligatory Prayer (Salah)

• Fasting in the month of Ramadan

• Compulsory Giving (Zakat)

• Pilgrimage to Mecca (Haji)

What is Iman?

All the components included in the 6 Pillars of Iman:

• Believe in the oneness of Allah.

• Believe in the Angels (Malaikat)

• Believe in the Allah's Revealed Book (Kitab)

• Believe in the Messengers of Allah (Prophets & Rasul)

• Believe in the Day of Judgement

• Believe in Qada' & Qadar

What is Ihsan?

• To worship Allah as though you see Him, and even though you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you.

1. Tawheed Rububiyah

• Believing that only God is the creator, maintainer, regulator, and ruler of the universe. God has full power over everything in this world. There is no authority but Allah.

2.Tawheed Uluhiyah

• Focusing on God in worship. Only God has the right to be worshiped and all forms of worship such as prayer, sacrifice, prayer, and fasting should be directed only to Him. This emphasizes that we cannot associate God with anything or anyone in matters of worship.

3.Tawheed Asma' wa Sifat

• Believing that only Allah has perfect names and attributes. In this regard, we must understand the names and attributes of Allah as explained in the Qur'an and Sunnah without distorting, equating, or rejecting these attributes.

These three types of Tawheed are interrelated and form the basis of a Muslim's faith in relating to God.

• Prophets: A person (man) is given a revelation by God for himself without any obligation to convey it (revelation) to his people

• Messengers: A person (man) is given a revelation by God for himself, and he must convey it (revelation) to his people.

• Not all the Prophets are the Messengers, but all the Messengers are the Prophets.

• The Day of Judgement is certain to happen, and it is the beginning of the true life of people in the world.

• Those who believe and carry out all His commandments will look forward to the blessings of heaven promised by God, while those who do not believe and abandon all His commandments will beg God to return to the world so that they can carry out all His commands but it is all too late.

• Qada: something that has been decided by Allah SWT for all His creations, whether it is in terms of its creation, destruction, or changes.

• Example: death, mate, birth

• Qadar: something that has been set at a certain amount since the beginning of time, so that it follows His knowledge which precedes everything.

• Example: health, success, and failure

• Qada is like a building site, and Qadar is like a building.

  
  

• To worship Allah as though you see Him, and even though you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you.

• Muslim -> Mu'min -> Muhsin (the best Muslim)

Conditions to be a Muhsin:

1) do good to others

2) do good to others as much as possible

3) do 1) & 2) for the sake of Allah

Example of the Prophet's Story Related to Ihsan:

1) Prophet Noah (Nuh)

For 900+ years, only 70-80 people followed the teachings of Prophet Noah (Islam), but he still called to follow his teachings because of the character of Ihsan in him.

2) Prophet Joseph (Yusuf)

There was a woman who seduced Prophet Yusuf and the woman was already married, but Prophet Yusuf still refused the woman's invitation even though only the two of them were at home because he had the character of Ihsan and fear of Allah.

• to educate or to discipline people

• good habits / good manners

• appropriate action that we need to take in certain situations

Adab with Parents:

It begins with the story of Prophet Ibrahim and his father, Azar. Prophet Ibrahim invited his father gently to follow the teachings of God. But his father insisted on still worshiping idol gods. After several attempts to persuade, his father drove Prophet Ibrahim out of the house if he still wanted to follow God's teachings. Prophet Ibrahim obeyed his father's order and left his own home.

Adab with Friends:

• Take care of your friend's heart

• Call a friend with a good name/pronoun

  
  

• We should practice ethics when acquiring knowledge so that the knowledge gained becomes a blessing

• We must believe that the Qur'an is a true book because it is preserved from any distortion until the Day of Judgment.

WEEK 2-5:

1. The Hadith of Jibril is one of the most important hadiths in Islamic teachings narrated by Umar bin al-Khattab. This hadith tells the story of the arrival of the angel Gabriel who resembled a man to the Prophet Muhammad SAW to ask him some things related to Islam. In this dialogue, Jibril asked about faith (Iman), Islam, courtesy (Ihsan), and the signs of the Day of Judgement.

• Faith (Iman): Jibril asked the Prophet about faith, and the Prophet replied that faith consists of six pillars, namely:

1. Believe in God

2. Believe in His angels.

3. Believe in His books.

4. Believe in His messengers.

5. Believe in the Day of Judgement

6. Believe in fate, good and bad from God.

   
   

Faith includes belief in the heart about unseen things that are the basis of a Muslim's belief.

• Islam: Islam was explained by the Prophet as an outward act or practice consisting of five pillars, namely:

1. Saying two sentences of shahadah (testimony that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger)

2. Set up prayer

3. Paying zakat

4. Fasting in the month of Ramadan

5. Perform Hajj for those who can afford it.

This is a deed that confirms a person as a Muslim in the eyes of society and front of God.

• Ihsan: Ihsan is the highest level of religion and describes a deep spiritual attitude. The Prophet stated that Ihsan is "You worship God as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then indeed He sees you." Ihsan shows a close and conscious relationship between humans and God, where charity is done sincerely and responsibly.

• Signs of the Day of Judgment: Gabriel also asked about the signs of the Day of Judgment, and the Prophet gave some small and large signs that indicate the nearness of the Day of Judgment, such as:

  The slave gave birth to his master

  Poor and homeless people raced to build tall buildings.

• This hadith explains three important aspects of Islam:

  Faith (Iman) is the basis of confidence.

  Islam as a real action or practice.

  Ihsan has a deep spiritual appreciation.

  These three aspects cover the entire dimension of a Muslim—faith in the heart, charity in action, and courtesy in the relationship with God.

WEEK 6:

• Based on Surah Maryam verses 41-47, Prophet Ibrahim practiced good manners towards his father when he persuaded his father, Azar, to embrace God's teachings such as using polite language and tone, but he was driven out of the house by his father and he remained obedient to the order.

• We must practice ethics towards friends such as calling our friends by a good name or pronoun to strengthen brotherhood and maintain friendship.

As a pharmacy student, my primary goal is to gain a deep understanding of pharmaceutical sciences and clinical practice, ensuring that I am well-prepared to provide excellent patient care. I aim to excel academically and develop strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are essential for a pharmacist.

Additionally, I am committed to staying updated on advancements in the field, including new medications and treatment options, so that I can offer the most effective solutions to patients. I also aspire to work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, contributing to a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

In the future, I hope to specialize in a particular area of pharmacy, such as clinical pharmacy or pharmacotherapy, where I can further refine my expertise. Ultimately, my goal is to make a positive impact on patient health and well-being through the safe and effective use of medications.

• Intellect, wisdom, and knowledge

• Denotes fear of God (taqwa), according to Rabi bin Anas

• The concept of comprehending the commands of Allah, according to Ibn Zayd

• A blend of knowledge and deed, according to Ibn Qutaiba

"الحِكْمَةُ ضَالَّةُ المُؤْمِنِ  فَحَيْثُ وَجَدَهَا فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهَا"

2) What is Niyyah?

"إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَاتِ"

• The intention or motive behind the act is to attain Allah SWT's reward and draw oneself closer to Allah

• Setting the right niyyah is important because:

  1) It helps distinguish between different acts of worship

  2) It helps one differentiate between the acts that are solely performed for the sake of Allah SWT and those that are performed for the sake of other

• Any deed performed without niyyah might not be accepted by Allah SWT

How do we know if we set a right niyyah?

• Sincerity

• Purity of intention

• Clarity

• Focus

• Consistency

3) What is Amal?

• The practice of performing good deeds and acts of worship

• The fundamental aspect of Islamic faith and it is considered to be one of the most important ways in which Muslims can demonstrate their devotion to Allah

• Have a positive impact on the wider community, as it encourages Muslims to engage in acts of kindness, charity, and service

• Example of Amal: Salah, Zakah, Sawm, Hajj

4) What is Ehsan?

• Positive virtues that are considered to be essential for leading a good life

• Example of Ehsan: Compassion, Honesty, Humility, Patience

"أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّك تَرَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاك"

• Salah instills awareness of Allah, it restrains from immoral behavior and encourages obedience

• Attributes of Salah:

  1. Ikhklas (sincerity for Allah)

  2. Taqwa (fear of Allah)

  3. Zikrullah (rememberance of Allah)

• Quranic verse: Surah al-Ankabut (29:45)

2) Sawm (Fasting)

• Sawm develops Taqwa, empathy and discipline, it helps believers draw closer to Allah

• Benefits of Sawm:

  1. Recognizing Allah's constant observation

  2. Weakening Satan's influence

  3. Fostering acts of worship

• Quranic verse: Surah al-Baqarah (2:183)

3) Zakah (Charity)

• Zakah purifies wealth and self, fostering generosity and reducing greed

• Benefits of Zakah:

  1. Cleanses sins and bad traits

  2. Supports the needy

• Quranic verse: Surah al-Tawbah (9:103)

4) Hajj (Pilgrimage)

• Hajj disciplines believers to follow Allah's commandments and abstain from prohibited acts

• Etiquette of Hajj:

  1. Avoid indecent acts, disobedience, and disputes

  2. Stay devoted to worship and good deeds

• Quranic verse: Surah al-Baqarah (2:197)

Taharah:

1) The body

• Clean and pure from najasah or impurity on the body

• Hadith of Muslim (292)

2) The clothing

• Hadith of Bukhari (337)

• A woman came to the Prophet and asked what she should do if one of us saw menstrual blood on her garment

• The Prophet said that she should scratch it, then rub it with her fingers whilst pouring water on it and continue to pour water on it (until it is clean) and then pray in it

3) The place

• The place in which prayer is offered

• Examples: masjid, musolla, any room that clean

• Hadith of Anas Ibn Malik:

  A Bedouin came and urinated in the mosque. The people rebuked him but the Prophet told them not to do that. When (the man) had finished urinating, the Prophet ordered that a bucket of water be poured over it.

  
  

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ  الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ

Certainly, will the believers have succeeded: They who are during their prayer humbly submissive,” - Surah al-Mu’minun (1-2)

Meaning of Khushu':

• Literal: calmness, humility, fear, and humbleness

• Terminological: State of the heart characterized by humility, submission, and attentiveness to Allah during acts of worship, particularly in Salah

Importance of Khushu' in Salah:

• Salah is the second pillar of Islam and a direct connection with Allah

• Khushu' ensures focus, humility, and sincerity in prayer

• Khushu' makes Salah meaningful and spiritually fulfilling

• Demonstrate complete submission and devotion to Allah

How to achieve Khushu' in Salah?

• Prepare mentally and physically: purify intention, perform ablution, wear clean attire

• Understand the meaning of recitation

• Choose a quiet and clean place for Salah

• Avoid distractions: keep gadgets away

• Visualize standing before Allah (Ihsan)

• Clean up ourselves and brush our teeth

• Do not perform Salah when the food is served and when the condition of holding to defecate and urinate

Techniques to Maintain Khushu':

• Focus on every movement and understand the meaning of recitations

• Slow down and avoid rushing

• Reflect on the significance of each action

• Make dua for khushu'

Effects of Khushu' in Daily Life and Hereafter:

• Increases mindfulness and discipline

• Strengthens connection with Allah

• Promotes inner peace and reduces stress

• Rewards in the Hereafter: acceptance of prayers and closeness to Allah

Two Things That Hinder Khushu':

• Shubhah

• Syahwah

• Total obedience to Allah's commands

• In Salah:

  1. Bowing and prostration signify submission

  2. Builds unwavering loyalty to Allah

• Reflection: Salah reminds us of our purpose and servitude to Allah

  
  

2) Al-Jihad (Struggle in The Path of Allah)

• Striving for Allah's cause, spiritually and morally

• In Salah:

  1. Overcoming distractions to maintain focus

  2. Battling the self to achieve Khushu'

• Reflection: Daily prayers strengthen our resolve to face life's struggles with patience

3) Muhasabah (Reflection)

• Self-accountability and self-contemplation

• In Salah:

  1. Time for self-reflection and seeking forgiveness

  2. Evaluating actions and intentions before Allah

• Reflection: Encourages a purified heart and a clear conscience

4) Tawaddu' (Humility/Humbleness)

• Acknowledgement of one's position as a servant of Allah

• In Salah:

  1. Physical acts like bowing and prostration demonstrate humility

  2. Removes arrogance and instills gratitude

• Reflection: Develop a humble attitude in daily interactions

5) Iffah (Modesty/Self-restraint from sinful behavior)

• Avoidance of sinful behavior and desires

• In Salah:

  1. Reminder of Allah's presence fosters modesty in thoughts and actions

  2. Nurtures self-discipline and moral integrity

• Reflection: A barrier against sins and worldly distractions

1. Fix Intent

   • Prepare our intention to face this Ramadan only because of Allah

   • If the heart has been focused only on seeking Allah's pleasure, then his deeds after that will lead to him as well

2. Perform Salah (prayer)

   • One of the things practiced by the Salaf group in welcoming Ramadan is performing Salah

   • Perform Tarawih prayer in congregation or alone because it is such a special Ibadah that comes only in Ramadan

3. Reading the Quran more

   • Ramadan is a special month that reveals the Quran in it which is a guide for all mankind

   • Glorify the Quran by reading and reciting it

4. Giving alms & feeding

   • One of the most afdhal practices recommended by The Prophet SAW

   • The same goes for feeding by preparing iftar delicacies for others, it is also a type of alms and even has its own rewards

5. Qiyamullail

   • Referred to turn on the night in the month of Ramadan by worshipping Allah

   • Whoever prays qiyam with the imam until it is finished, then Allah has rewarded him with qiyam all night

• Literal: growth, increase, cleanliness and betterment

• Technical: a determined share of wealth prescribed by God to be distributed among deserving categories

• Zakah is different from tax systems because it promotes spiritual purification and social responsibility

  
  

Zakah vs Sadaqah

• Zakah is a compulsory, formal, and structured Ibadah while Sadaqah is a recommended, informal, and non-structured Ibadah

• For Zakah, Allah SWT specified its recipients, amounts, time, and method of payment

• For Sadaqah, Allah SWT did not specify its recipients, amounts, time, and method of payment

• Zakah consists of 2 types: Zakah al-Fitr, Zakah al-Mal

• Sadaqah includes all acts of giving and donation such as Zakah, Infaq, and Waqf

1) Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah)

• Training Muslims to rely on Allah SWT rather than material wealth

• Assurance that Allah will replace that is given for His sake

2) Ukhuwwah (Relationship among Muslims)

• Fosters love, empathy, and unity among Muslims

• Purifies society from envy and hatred
