I interviewed an Algerian boy and asked him to tell his story: "... hi, I am 15 years old and I am of Algerian origin. My family has been in Italy for twenty years, in fact I was born in Italy. My mother has never been able to work because we are five brothers and I am the oldest.My father worked for several years, but then, following the flood, he lost the vehicle he worked with and therefore lost his work. Since then he has done only a few sporadic jobs: the parish and the diocesan Caritas support us a lot, accompanying us in the difficulties, but also supporting themselves economically.
This year I started attending a vocational school. At the beginning of the year, together with a list of varied material, the school demanded that each family buy a PC with precise characteristics worth around € 500. My family could not afford it at all and so Caritas, which has as its first objective the support to study for a better quality of life for the children of the families that it accompanies every day, has chosen to buy it. This gesture was of considerable importance to me, because right from the start I was able to carry out my studies like all my companions, avoiding the perception of the discomfort of economic and social inequality. "

THE NECESSITY OF SOLIDARITY

Solidarity is one of the most vital and important values that could characterize a community. This value is characterized of the co-operation between individuals and through solidarity we could possibly overcome some of the most terrible disasters that strike our society nowadays such as war, diseases, hunger etc.
The existence of solidarity motivates people all over the world to do actions in order to help others. Through solidarity, people can offer their time and their belongings just to relieve someone else.

Helping each other is the main feature of solidarity and what distinguishes it from volunteering and charity. It isn’t a simple value. Except from the difficulties, it also helps us to become better people by offering our services without wanting anything in return. And this is real magic

Solidarity is directly related to meanings orconcepts and mutual aid. Furthermore it relies on the virtue of cooperation between people who have a common goal or are likely to provide help. Also we have to take into consideration the impact that solidarity will have in our planet. Because through this important value people will have the ability to create a world whose basic “ingredients” will be love, peace and collaboration.
