Explanation- Character Traits

In the beginning off the book Roy is curious about the running boy that he saw while he was sitting on the bus. When Roy had to promise to stop looking for the running boy it took all the "Willpower he could muster." because he was so curious in finding out who he was and why he didn't go to school. More towards the middle of the book Roy is confident because before he would just let Dana bully him but now he is starting to stick up for himself in front of Dana and with his friends. At the end of the book Roy is very committed to trying to help the owls stay safe and help keep there home. At the beginning of the book Roy didn't really know anything about the owls but now he is very interested, because of Mullet Fingers. Roy would have never found out about the owls if he wasn't so curious about Mullet Fingers.

Point of View

1. If Mullet Fingers told the book in his perspective then we would know a lot more about his background, like when he left and about where he stayed most of the time. The downside of if he told the book in his perspective is, we would not know Curley or Officer Delinko's point of view, also we would not know as much about Roy.
2. If the book did not have a narrator, we would only be able to see one persons point of view, which we would not get as much information on each character if there wasn't a narrator.
3. If the book was written in only Roy's point of view, we would not know what officer Curley and Delinko thought about the crime scene's and there suspicions on who was messing up the construction site.

Theme- Determination and Friendship

Explanation- Theme

The theme is important because if Roy and Beatrice didn't share a good friendship then they wouldn't be able to help Mullet Fingers together and help out the owls and Roy would be getting bullied more than he already is even being friends with Beatrice and Mullet Fingers and Roy share a very good friendship too, Roy is helping out Mullet Fingers a lot, like when they took him to the hospital, waited there for him and let him use his name. Also determination is well fitting theme because Roy is determined to help mullet Fingers by stopping the Mother Paula from building there pancake house over the owl homes. Also Officer Delinko is determined to catch the kid who is messing up his construction site.
Chuck Muckle is determined to have the Mother Paula finished so Kimberly Lou Dixon could attend.

Setting

If the setting wasn't in Coconut Cove Florida, and was in Merrimack NH then Dana would not be able to bully Roy on the bus because the bus driver would realize because they are much more observant. "Dana mushed his face against the window." page # 1
Also it would be much colder in NH around this time of year because I'm guessing its around the middle of the school year. If the book took place in a cold environment then Roy most likely wouldn't have pulled down his pants in Dana's back yard and he would of had to come up with a different plan. "What he did was salute crisply, spin around, drop his pants, and bend over." page # 182
If the setting was in a wet area with high vegetation then the owls would not be living there and the story would change completely because there would be no owls so its important that the story takes place in Florida because that's where most burrowing owls live. "Please, mister, let me go. I was only feeding the owls." page # 227
