Author: J.K Rowlings
Read: 9/23
*British Book Award

This book is great for readers in fifth and sixth grade. But really this is a great book that can be read by most readers whenever they would like. This book is about wizards who start their first year of school, and how they overcome obstacles that lead them into friendships. A lesson I could teach from this book is just because you are starting a new school does not mean that you won't be able to make new friends and together you and your new friends while have great adventures. As students you just need to be accepting of everyone you meet.

Author: Louis Sachar
Read 9/24
*Newbery medal Award

This is a reading that can be taught in fourth through sixth grade as well as in high school grades. This book is about a boy that gets in trouble and is sent to an all boys reformative camp. In the story the boys have to dig holes to build character, but in all actuality they are digging for treasure. While digging they are building friendships during the tough times all the boys are going through. The lesson I would teach is that the main chapter at first was judging everyone at the camp and then he got to know everyone became friends with them, so I would teach to not judge a book by its cover.

Author: Rick Riordan
Read: 9/22

This book is for readers who are interested in Greek mythology and also grade levels third through eight. This book is about the main character finding out about who his dad really was and going on a journey with friends. I would be able to teach this book to students with lesson that sometimes you have to take a leap of faith with your friends and trust each other. You should always have your friends best interest in your heart. The same goes for your friends, they should always want the best for you.

Author: Marcia Jones
Read: 9/24

This book is a good starter chapter book for fourth grade. This book is able to relate to the students reading it, because its all about people within the school and who they really are. There are a group of students that are figuring out the mystery together and each student brings something different to the group. So the lesson I would teach is that everyone plays a very important part either in your friend group or in a classroom setting.

The Graveyard Book

Author: Neil Gaiman
Read: 9/22
*Newbery Award

The Graveyard Book is about a boy who is raised by ghost in a cemetery. In the book the boy makes friends with a human and witch, all the most important people in his life are not his family by blood, but his family by choice. I would suggest this book to students who are interested in mysteries and that like books about adventures. In the book the boy Bod is living his life in a cemetery, but when he gets older he leaves because life is nothing but potential that he needs to experience. I would teach students after this book, that life is theirs you just have to want it!
