Flappers had a very big impact on young women in the US. Now, young people were embracing new fashions and new attitudes. They became more assertive in the way that they tried to have their attitudes and actions match those of men. They began to smoke cigarettes, drinking in front of the public, and talking freely about sexual actions. The attitudes towards marriage changed for young women in the way that they thought it was more of an equal partnership. Women's freedom was still limited in the way that a double standard was created for them. The double standard said that men had greater sexual freedom than women. This required women to have stricter standards of how they should act and behave towards others. Even though women had worked successfully in the industry, men were taking over their jobs because of employers who thought it was a mans responsibility to provide income for their family to live. Women were not needed as much in the factories. Those who graduated from college became teachers, nurses or librarians, proving that they could break the stereotypes and still have a job. By 1930, millions of women were earning wages, but not nearly as much as men.

Jazz was first introduced in the earth 20th century in a city called New Orleans. Jazz was when musicians blended instrumental ragtime and vocals mixed with blues all into a new and exciting sound. In the year of 1922, a young trumpet player known as Louis Armstrong joined a jazz crew named Creole Jazz Band. Louis had a lot of talent and it got him very far in the world of jazz. After two years of playing in Chicago with one band, Louis joined the most important big jazz band in the New York City. African American performers popularized black culture in the way that the white people now went and watched their shows. The white people now were listening to and enjoying the music that some of the African Americans were playing. The African Americans proved that they were not just something of different color, but now were considered actual humans.

The automobile changed American life in many ways. It changed the landscape specifically. Paved roads were constructed, and a famous road was Route 66. Route 66 provided an easy route for people traveling west from Chicago to California. Many settled along this route as well. Business was better after the creation of Route 66 because gas stations, repair shops, public garages, motels, tourist camps, and shopping centers. People would stop at these places frequently while on Route 66, which gave businesses more money because more people were buying the things that they were offering. The effect on the railroad industry was negative because since people were now taking automobiles around to do activities and travel with their family and friends, railroads weren't needed as much. Not everyone had cars, but they were becoming more affordable so more people were getting them. As for shipping, instead of using a railroad, people were now transporting with trucks and cars, so the railroad once again was not needed. Airplanes also became a popular way of traveling and shipping goods. The airplane began carrying mail for the U.S. Post Office. This helped the business because mail could be delivered quickly to people's homes which gave the airplane industry money. The airplane had a negative impact on the railroad industry because cargo was now being put on airplanes instead of railroads. The industry didn't seem very popular anymore all because of automobiles and airplanes taking over one of their sole purposes. Credit also played a big role in the economy of the United States in 'The Roaring Twenties' in the way that people were encouraged to use credit to purchase a mass amount of goods produced each year. Advertisers used an "installment plan" idea to use slogans to get people to use credit and also advertised in specific ways that the American people would find appealing to buy. Electrical conveniences transformed the nation extremely well. Factories used electricity to power their factories, and by the end of the 1920s, a lot of homes had electric irons while more wealthier families had electric refrigerators, cooking ranges and toasters. By this time, electricity was no longer restricted to cities but could be used in suburbs, but farms lacked the power of electricity. Installment made a superficial prosperity in the way that people were being encouraged to spend money that they didn't even have. People would buy a product, but not have to put as much money down at the time of the purchase. This led to people not being able to even pay for what they actually just bought because they didn't technically have enough money for it. Farmers didn't do very well in the 1920s because as more machines were being built to help with food production, more food was being made quickly. With more than needed food being produced, the prices for the food were being decreased because there was so much of it and it wasn't scarce or expensive to get.

After France and Great Britain had to pay back the $10 billion dollars they had borrowed from America, it could be done in two ways. Either by selling goods to the United States or by collection reparations from Germany. But in 1922, the Fordney-McCumber Tariff raised taxes on U.S. imports to 60 percent. This protected American businesses from foreign competition and made it extremely hard for France and Great Britain to sell enough product in the United States to repay all of their debts. Additionally, the Dawes Plan is when American investors loaned Germany $2.5 billion dollars to pay Britain and France back with annual payments on a scale. Those countries then paid back the United States and they arranged to be repaid with their own money. Harding's friends damaged his administration in the way that the government had set aside public lands that were oil-rich for use by the U.S. Navy Secretary who was a close friend of oil executives. He somehow managed to transfer the oil reserves from the navy to the Interior Department. This was found as bribery by the government.
