1. Name: Hilda
2. Possible topic: Why do people smoke, drink and vape? What do smoking, drinking and vaping do to our bodies? How can we make better choices?
3. Real life issue/scenario: Drinking, smoking and vaping have always been prohibited by schools, not only because they are 'bad ideas', but also because they are unhealthy habits. By digging up the reasons why people choose to so, we may find other options to replace these unhealthy life-styles.
4. Description of the project: The final product is an informative video made by students to present the reasons why people smoke, drink and vape; the harm of smoking, vaping, and drinking; and other options people can choose to get what drinking, smoking and vaping can do for them, so as to promote healthy life choices. First, student will conduct scientific investigations to see how do tobacco extract, E-liquid and alcohol affect the heart rate and respiratory rate of Daphnia, pulex, a planktonic crustaceans by observing live samples under light microscopes. Student will collect data and plot graphs which will be later used in the video to show the harm of smoking, drinking and vaping. 2. Students will find how did smoking, vaping and drinking become a habit of people (or certain groups of people), by surveys and questionnaires, to see why people choose to do so at the first place. Students can also research and use official data offered by authorities such as WHO to see how many people are doing these thing on a daily basis in the world. 3. If people are doing these things to ease the tension, to relax or for other possible reasons, can people do other things instead? Students will find substitutes or solutions that might also work for people. 4. Students make a video and play it on the LED screen in the lobby.
5. Subjects: Science, PHE, I&S
6.
