Witchcraft is the practice of magic, especially black magic. Witchcraft has to do with the use of spells and spirits. Witchcraft during the 17th century began during Queen Elizabeth 1's reign. Women would reject Jesus and holy sacraments and take apart in the "Witch's Sabbath." The Witch's Sabbath was known as a parody of the mass and sacraments. Some people were offended by Witchcraft, others agreed with this idea. The witches involved in Witchcraft were stereotypically women. From slightly before the 17th century to mid 18th century 200,000 witches were tortured, burnt, and hung across western Europe.

A witch scare was taken place in the early 1640s. Then in 1645, witch hunts were taken place for two years. Witch hunts were searches for and persecutions of supposed witches. Many people thought witches were the cause of all the things that have gone wrong. It was just something to blame your problems on. A couple of people in this time period "were convicted of causing the death by bewitchment," specifically of this person, Lady Susan Cromwell. (BBC) "Across Europe, 50,000 men and women were executed for witchcraft between 1500 and 1800." (BBC) John Stearne's and Matthew Hopkins' methods of witch hunts spread across East Anglia. Witch hunts still take place to this day. Although, John Goldsmith thought their methods were a scam to get money so he exposed his methods. The East Anglian Witch Hunt 1645-47 exhibit was shown in the Cromwell Museum.

Witches were the women who drove the people of the 1600s to their knees. Their mystique and unsettling demeanor lead many to distrust them. The true intentions of these women were supremely misconstrued. Yes, it is true that some witches used their black magic to hex those who have wronged them. However, spells that were completely harmless and even helpful were used as well. Spiritual rituals and spells included: speaking with spirits, conjuring a spirit "in a Glass to tell all", and activating the Seal of Solomon. As for the helpful charms, they had incantations for handling nose bleeds, period cramps, toothaches, "skabbie hands", and "sore fingers ends". This comes to show that even the most unnerving people with bad reputations can put out positive energy into the world, all you have to do is take a closer look.

A lot of people assume that witches or people who follow the wiccen religion have magical super powers and all that fun stuff. In reality that is not true, witch craft is all spiritual based. "Magik" and "Spells" are all based off of energies and if you really want to perfect the ritual or spell you would perform it on a certian day depending on what phase the moon was in. White magik is good, not evil whatsoever, black magik is evil and is used to do evil things.
