“Pashtunwali code, which governs how we Pashtuns live. One part of that code is badal—a tradition of revenge—where one insult must be answered by another, one death by another, and on and on it goes. I had had my taste of exacting revenge. And it was bitter. I vowed then that I would never partake in badal.” To me this is a powerful lesson of stopping a cycle of hurt. There is so much strength in choosing not to hurt others.

The choice is ours.

“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.” To me this shows that without fear you are missing one of the key parts to living, which is to feel. This shows me that without fear, you would never feel accomplished after doing something that scares you. This shows me that you need to feel all emotions, the happy and the sad, to really feel alive.

"It's like when two objects in space pass each other: you can't tell which one is moving and which one is standing still." This quote is about people who tell the same story in two different ways, you don't know which one is right or wrong because you weren't a part of it. This is important because it reminds you to not always believe what you first hear, but to look at the bigger picture and then make your judgments.

"Where are you now? I ask, and I turn, exoecting to see a figure standing somewhere in the theater. I anticipate sme footsteps scattering across the floor behind us. I jerk my head around to look. There are people everywhere, but nowhere. In each black space I find, I think I locate someone, but each time, the darkness thickens and that's all there is. Darkness."
This quote shows that most times we are always expecting someone or something to come for us for help, or to come at us. However, it rarely happens where what you are expecting turns into reality. In the quote, the author is expecting someone to show up, but everytime he thinks he has found that person, the darkness or the reality surrounds him, making him realize the truth. The quote shows that people should anticipate and expect, however letting it get to your head can make one forget the reality.

"Three boys zombies in matching Red Jackets bused our table, bringing water, lighting candles, washing away the crumbs between courses. Their eyes were dark, attentive, lifeless; their hands and faces so white as to be faintly luminous in the hushed light. I thought it in bad taste, but “ This is Manhattan” Courtney said “ a certain studied offensiveness is fashionable here.”

The blond brought menus and waited for our order. We both ordered pheasant. “An excellent choice,” the boy said in a clear, emotionless voice. He went away and came back a minute later with the freshly strangled birds, holding them up for our approval. He couldn't have been more than 11 when he died and his skin was of that sort that connoisseurs call “ milk- glass,” smooth, without blemish, and all but translucent. He must have cost a fortune.""
This quote is from a book my dad made me read. It is a surrealist take on the world if we bought and sold zombies. And how to jobs for humans would decrease because zombies could do them more efficiently. I thought this was an interesting take and the opening quote is gripping.

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

In this day and age, my generation has endless more opportunities than any other before. But, one quality that we are beginning to lose is our sense of hard work and dedication. We wish for amazing careers, we dream of a better future than the present reality. But we don’t take action towards what we want. We spend all of our time imagining. This quote is a great reminder that dwelling on what we want will not get us anywhere. If you want to become a neuroscientist, you have to put in the work, the studying. If you want to have a big, beautiful house, you have to make money. We focus on “if” instead of “when”, expecting life to reward us. But we have to learn to live good lives in order to achieve our goals. They won’t be handed on a silver platter, but rather, on a plate you spent working night shifts, studying hard, and putting effort into your life to obtain. A plate bought with blood, sweat, and tears.

"I was lucky. That's what everyone told me. I didn't feel very lucky, lying there in the most excruciating physical pain of my life."
When we get injured in some way, especially emotional hurt, we are often told to suck it up, that others have it worse than us and that we should be grateful the situation isn't worse. I like this quote because while the context is very serious it's a funny line, but mostly because it shows how useless having that attitude is. The knowledge that it could be worse won't help you heal; in order to truly be able to recover from something, you need to acknowledge your pain and know that just because other people have it worse or that it could have been much worse for you, that doesn't take away from what you feel and it's impact on your life.

'Only innocent lives, Peter!'"
I feel that this quote stands out because it is powerful and it shows a difference in the beliefs of people. Peter is only interested in his self preservation and what he gains from his actions. Sirius Black cares out not just himself, but also about those around him, and is willing to do whatever he needs to to protect them, even if it means putting his life in danger.
Another reason I believe this quote stands out is because it is a good reminder to us that just going along with something even though we know it is wrong can and will hurt others. It reminds me of Night by Elie Wiesel when the Jews were scared and didn't want to cause a fuss about the German soldiers started to make changes in their lives that ended up in most of them being killed.

The order that is most real is the order that is most unchanging and that is not necessarily the order that is most easily seen."
I find this quote to be a very strange yet understandable take on the evolution of nature. I don't think I truly understand what he's saying, but I have an idea of what he means. Peterson is saying that evolution is not random like some would like to say it is. However some say that it is obvious how evolution will go, Peterson on the other hand believes that neither of these people would be correct. Yet I don't think that's the only meaning in this quote because Peterson typically leaves secondary meanings to a lot of his writing.

When Mark Antony finds Julius Caesar's dead body, he is so distraught that he gives a prophecy. Men will fight with each other like never before: till their copses beg to be buried. Shakespeare knew not only that war destroyed the Roman Republic, but that violent wars would keep happening as long as long as someone is breathing.

But you see, Meg, just because we don't understand doesn't mean that the explanation doesn't exist."

I think this quote displays how we limit ourselves very well. There is a possiblity that things exist without our understanding of why they do. That doesn't automatically mean that there isn't an explanation. Just because it is beyond our thinking doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It does make sense, just in a way that we don't necessarily understand.

And when anger is the boss, you get unintended consequences." I first came across this quote when reading this book a few years back. I enjoy reading this quote because it reminds me that I have to make sense of my emotions and not let them get out of control before they overcome me.

I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate ... All those moments, will be lost in time like tears in rain."
This is one of the most important monologues is film history, spoken by a character that is not human but a man made "human" used for work. This monologue talks about how insignificant we and our actions truly are. That is why we should strive to influence others in good ways because In the end all our special memories and actions will be lost like tears in the rain...

The quotes itself is applicable to many instances of life, which makes this quotes powerful.

It's quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see."

I thought this quote was beautiful because, for me, it represents love as a type of understanding. To really, truly love someone, you have to understand them. You have to be able to look at them and see them for who they are, not just who you want/expect them to be. And they've got to see you back. A lot of John Green's quotes are like this, so I'd recommend his books if you liked it.
