    • We are a multi-cultural city centre school with over 30 different nationalities
    • Being culturally diverse means that we need to be mindful of cultural differences and that these are celebrated

    Related School-wide Initiatives
    • We host an annual Intercultural day where all of the different nationalities are celebrated
    • A weekly focus on an individual nationality/culture, e.g. greeting in that language
    • Flags of the various countries displayed in the school
    • EAL team in operation working on various initiatives and sharing them with all staff
    What does it mean for Business Studies?
    • Creates extra challenges in the Business studies classroom
    • Use translating apps so that students can communicate regardless of language level
    • Use web translator to translate class notes & class tests into the various languages
    • Where possible select businesses from the student's home country to use as examples in the classroom
    Classroom Strategies in Action
    • Pair the student up with a fluent English speaker for support
    • Have differentiated worksheets for all but particularly for EAL students
    • Reduced workload for EAL students while they are acquiring the language
    • Have a key word list for all
    • Get students to create posters in their own language - display these in the classroom
    • Student has use of dictionary
    • Group work
