The construction of the Idlewild Pool in 1937 provided Reno with its first manmade, concrete lined pool. This gave residents the opportunity to engage in recreational activity with their fellow community members. Since Nevada is a desert state, it also provided somewhere for people to cool off and have fun in the community. In the 1970's the Idlewild pool was enhanced but is still a popular place for residents to cool off and socialize.
