Is it corrupting the characters or helping them?

What qualities did the main character have that helped or hindered them?

Ozymandias calls himself the king of kings. So, what you would take from this statement is that he has more power than anybody else. This belief that he is the most powerful, is what causes him to fall. He claims to have all this power, yet nothing is left to stand for it. He felt as if he was king of the world, he was hanging with the big dogs or maybe even indestructible; this is what hurt him the most.

Power comes into play in this poem through refusing to give up. These characteristics will help by teaching them to refuse to give in;despite what their obstacle may be they can still beat the odds. One quality that is evident is persistence. In line 9 it says "my head was bloody but unbowed." This means that he even when it got hard, they stuck it out.

The initial power move came into play when Mrs. Maloney struck her husband with the leg of lamb. This hinders her because now she has to live with knowing that she killed her husband and the father of her child. Mrs. Maloney's emotional state is the biggest factor here. The love she had for her husband and the feelings of hate and rage drove her to commit this act.
