Another example for the same is another ad about this is the ad by ParleG wherein they released a 2.5 mins long film honouring the life of a soldier, with emotional quotations like “YouaremyParleG '' showcasing how they are their supporters and sources of happiness.

One example of how businesses capitalise on events such as Independence Day was seen in how Mc Donald launched a campaign ‘Truly Indian Burger’ or how the United Colors of Benetton came back with the ‘United By’ proposition. They use different social media marketing to reach a broad range of audience by maximising on the profit.

Another company that capitalised on contemporary events like Independence Day in its marketing campaigns was a company called MotoCorp, a Delhi Based company that manufactures motorcycles and scooters. Last year, on Independence Day, they started this campaign called #HeroSalutes. The video they made showed the Heroes who fight for our country and who have caring and loving families who actively support them every step of the way.

Many businesses use independence day as one of their strategies to improve their marketing and sales. They not only improve their reputation through this, but they get an insight as to how they can increase their sales (revenue).
There are different ways through which the companies can do this like tapping into the customers' emotions, limited period offer, exclusive product launch etc.
Ola uses the emotion strategy. Since people love to travel a lot during the festive season to meet their family relatives and friends, Ola offers a 300 rupees discount for its first-time outstation users and also offer deals on hotel stays as Ola has partnered with Club Mahindra and Yatra.
Flipkart uses the limited period offer strategy. Flipkart Freedom Sale is something Flipkart had introduced in order to celebrate India's spirit of Independence. It only runs for 4 days and people have a limited time to buy what they want to. Setting up such a trigger pushes prospective buyers to make purchases fast, to avoid missing out on the deals.
Amazon uses the exclusive product launch strategy. Amazon, on festive seasons introduces new products and on a discounted price. This way people can get the new products for themselves or to gift it to someone else. Amazon saw huge boosts in sales due to Smartphone and had exclusive launch of various devices such as Blackberry KeyOne, LG Q6 and the OnePlus 5's Soft Gold variant. This resulted in a massive 10X increase in the sales through just their Big Indian Sale Event.

Source:
https://vwo.com/blog/indian-brands-drive-conversions-independence-day/

Businesses capitalise on contemporary events like Independence day as a marketing strategy. National holidays are highly beneficial to businesses and bring in at-least 30% of a businesses revenue. Businesses often implement sales and the use of pathos around celebrations, this motivate buyers to spend more money.

An example is Amazon India, an annual sale is held every year, this along with the spirit of the celebration motivates the buyers to buy things they normally wouldn’t have.

Many companies release campaigns or products centred around the celebration or its theme. For example, around independence day, companies reign emphasis on freedom, and what is means. This marketing strategy has been seen in companies such as Bajaj Auto India that launched a campaign #RideYourIndependance which demonstrates liberty to women driving their product.
Another company that drives sales by capitalising on holidays and celebrations, is Cadbury. Cadbury releases chocolate around the theme of the celebration, for example heart shaped chocolates for valentines day and Diwali gift packages from the company.

Capitalising on contemporary events are a sure way to increase revenue and gain profits.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/cameronkeng/2018/05/23/how-entrepreneurs-capitalize-holidays-and-memorial-day-weekend-to-increase-sales/#4ed2a1d47cb1

https://www.digitalvidya.com/blog/independence-day-digital-marketing-campaigns/

The TED talk was a very informative that talked about importance of data and how it can be manipulated according to the audience we are catering to. This shows how easy it is for business to manipulate the data according to their convenience. Furthermore, the data could have a lot many biases present in them which also poses the question of 'validity' of the data.

In relation to businesses, we can see how statistics are a useful tool in creating new understandings and how the visual representation makes it easier to learn. However, the ted talk also showed data that was favourable to the speaker. Similarly, we can infer that data can also be unreliable and inaccurate as businesses can also tweak data to be biased or favorable to them.

As mentioned in class, there are numerous ways in which the learning from the TED talk can be applied in realistic business scenarios. Firstly, like the speaker uses date in order to strengthen his pitch about the contents of a perfect TED talk, similarly, firms can manipulate consumer responses in order to persuade the BOD's about their strategy. Secondly, consumer feedback or market research is also key whilst making policies and therefore is vital to multi - national corporations.

It is important to have a leader who can make sure that all team members agree with each other’s points and also guide them when they need some direction. A torch symbolizes direction and light towards making a good decision. Part of leadership is helping out team members to decide whether or not a decision is correct. The torch would act as a guiding light to support and protect the core ideals of the team.
