I use maze analogies, multidirection signs and maps a lot as I like the journey/path metaphor. Hopefully we can help clients understand which direction they may want to head in, and support them with the paths available.

Bit similar to the picture on the presentation! Shows clients that there are different paths and that it can be overwhelming choosing one.

Wide range of options

Some students/clients may have a clear path ahead but others may feel there are too many options and influences. May be reassuring to know that lots of people feel bombarded by information/options and that a careers advisor could help narrow down or make sense of the various different options.

So many options, fear about making the wrong choice and ending up in a career that you don't like then having to start all over again. Such a busy picture which gives me angst looking at it!

It must be overwhelming to think about career options while also trying to manage the pressure of doing a degree. Part of the adviser’s work is to help clients find the time and space to consider next steps. Many students will see colleagues racing ahead with applying for grad schemes and securing work, and this can add to the sense of overwhelm.
