This includes Technology, Space, and Agriculture. NASA astronauts have been able to successfully grow lettuce while aboard a spacecraft. Its purpose was to experiment the possibility of self sustaining food on board. It is a better alternative to the food that is currently given to astronauts, based on its nutritional value and life span. Growing the plants can also give the astronauts a mundane activity to have during the several months in a confined space. This is a highly beneficial practice that is still being experimented and studied.

1.20.16 Starting this first year in college, I had many fears about writing assignments for several classes, as I know my writing skills could use major improvements. Once an assignment is given I place myself in a calm, solitary environment that is not my room. I feel that my room gives me too many opportunities to procrastinate. I turn on any noise, no matter if its music or a television. Usually, my process involves starting to plan out the paper and writing down the main points of the paragraphs. From the on, I branch out and put more detail into the paragraphs every day. I can't concentrate on writing for more than a little while because I do prefer to read, as opposed to actually writing. However, sometimes this can cause me to be more critical of my own work and constantly change things from fear of it not being decent enough to present.

What Makes Inquiry Questions Unique?

1.22.16 Inquiry questions are created by analyzing information and exploring answers. Somehow, inquiry questions can lead to connections throughout the information given. A concept map is a tool that I have found to be very helpful in the past. It could serve as a visual for inquiry questions and/or any new information found. It gives the writer the opportunity to explore new information further, while at the same time being able to physically see their ideas and any connections that could be made.

1.27.16 As far as my understanding goes, Academic writing is an impersonal piece of writing that either supports or challenges an argument. I read a piece by L. Lennie Irvin that made me put my fears aside. It states that aside from writing, there are many skills involved such as reading and understanding the information presented to us. It also debunked several “myths”, that have been taught to students in high school, that no longer apply to college.

2.9.16 This week has been somewhat easy. One of the things that surprised me this week about writing is that many of the things we were told in high school, don't apply in college. One of the things that frustrates me still, is that I do struggle with writing because my process is a long one. I am able to understand the assignments enough to finish them, but I usually take a long time to completely finish a writing piece. As for my Composition 1, the instructions were clear enough to understand, but it did take me a while to finally find a topic I was both comfortable and knowledgeable in. The purpose of studying Academic Writing is to improve our skills and learn a new writing style that may be required later on in college.

2.12.16 As of right now, I have two topics in mind. One relating to Books vs Technology and the other relating to Criminal Justice and Media. I have sufficient information to begin with the Book approach, but I would like to explore the CJUS topic because it seems so much more interesting. As for the maps part, I could locate local police department community leaders' offices. For the Books, I could look for shops that sell tangible books and compare it to the amount of places that offer Wifi, which would allow for the online purchase of an electronic version of a book.

**Update: I chose to explore the Book topic. Essentially, my topic is about the increase in popularity of e-books. Although many find it convenient to use e-books, the majority of people still prefer physical paper books for many reasons.

3.7.16 I have decided to do a website as the multi modal presentation part. I think a website will give me the space and convenience needed. With a website, I can add as many pages as needed, and it will still be clear and easy to navigate. Each page will contain different information. I am worried about how long it may take me to set it up though.

**Update: I decided to scrap the website idea. Instead, I will have my portfolio on Padlet, as well as my EIP project. I realized that the website would be easy to understand for the viewer, but it was taking way too much time. Padlet is automatically organized.
