One main thing that struck a chord with me which would have been executed better was the Padlet activity. I think that revisiting it after the presentation would have provoked a bit more of a conversation to see if perceptions had changed. Another point that would have assisted in getting our themes across would have been a comparison to legislative policies and documents. As the person that presented this slide, I think that I could have gone in depth with it and touch on a few more policies. Looking back, this would have created a great impact on our presentation as certain childcare policies that govern Ontario are very contradictory when it comes to cultural diversity.  It was interesting to listen and read the experiences of other classmates. One of the biggest concept that resonated with me was when we talked about cultural foods in the classrooms. Being an immigrant, I remember during my first years of moving here, I would be ashamed to take certain foods such as roti for lunch because it is something that entailed me using my fingers. Doing this research has also made me realize the importance of not only honouring different cultures but the importance of paying attention to the sub-cultures within. Another take away from the presentation made me reflect on how the multicultural items in my current classroom is used to depict diversity and different beliefs and values. Now that I think of it, as an Educator, I do not address these materials. They are treated just as regular materials.  One of the questions that I was not expecting and really had me thinking was “If children don’t get exposure to diversity, then what are schools or childcare for? Are they just there to play and do those set curriculum?”

It was interesting to hear the group link their findings to policies and mandated such as the CCEYA Act. The group reiterated basic topics that we have covered within the Early Childhood field. One highlight for me was that they kept the emphasis on the importance of outdoor play on a child’s development specifically brain functioning. The group also make the link the Reggio Emilia style of teaching which provided a real-life example. One take away from this presentation was that there is a difference in the type and way the children play in the indoors versus the outdoors. I think that in the future, the group can focus their research on more age groups, not just the preschool years as we work with different age groups. It would have also been helpful to have some visual to follow along with the presentation as it was a bit difficult to follow along at times.

The examples provided share real-life benefits of the importance of technology. The presentation was eye catching with the use of different types of media pieces. One main thing that stood out to me was the choice in the video. It was interesting to listen to the children give their different perspectives on technology. The group members created a personal touch to their presentation by adding their personal experiences. The entire presentation, specifically the question about using an IPAD in the classroom really stirred a self reflection of how I perceive technology and how I use it in my own classroom. The conversation made me self- reflect on how my childhood experiences of not growing up in a technology era impacts my interaction and views of technology use. The group also allowed me to think about how technology impacts me as an educator as well and what message I portray in the classroom because of this. The presentation has allowed me to think of ways of how I can be more appreciative of technology in my preschool room and how I can use it to benefit both the children and myself.  One new learning for me from the presentation was the concept of virtual reality in the classroom. This was something I was not aware of until now and will be doing a bit more research to learn about.

The presentation was very relatable to all the topics discussed. I enjoyed listening to the group members personal experiences.  The video provided was a great resource to depict what our interactions as an educator should look like in the classroom.  One thing that really resonated with me was talking about our role as the educator and how it helps to set the child up for success. Another concept that struck me was noting the difference between observations with children and supervision of children. The topic was something that I really enjoyed learning about because it touched on key concepts that my group talked about in our presentation – having culturally responsive interactions, which is something we discovered that is essential in creating a culturally responsive environment. One main quote that I really think is empowering is from the video the group shared which is “Our interactions are our teachings.” This made me reflect on when I enter my classroom, what message am I giving to the children through my conversation, play and actions with them.
