But if overpopulation is the problem,then there are other ways to limit it instead of stoning people (which in my opinion is really outdated. I think the movie did a good job with carrying the story over into a film version, so it wasn't as lost as it is with many other film adaptations, and they managed to convey the basic meaning in a different way. I think I always get more out of a well-written story than I do it's movie, and it was a bit easier to get more understanding of the tradition in the written version, but the movie may work better for some people.

However, in the movie, the music foreshadowed the dark ending to the story. There were also some discrepancies between the movie and the written story, but the change of format does not really influence my understanding because I understand the overall general concept of the story.
