This was to provide economic aid to Western Europe that had been ruined during war through loans and grants. It became a goal to have stable democratic governments and promote economic recovery after WW2. This plan was achievable due to the Economic Cooperation Act of 1948, which was passed by Congress to provide government financial assistance to Western European nations in their post war recovery attempts.

With the excitement of waiting for this moment to finally occur, the US, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union help the Yalta Conference to discuss post war plans. This meeting aimed to prevent a repeat of post WW1 economic crisis that had originally contributed to the rise of the Nazi party. After WW2, Germany began facing serious consequences & restrictions. Millions of people were left homeless due to the Allied bombings, and millions more in Poland and East Prussia became refugees, many of whom were eventually expelled by the Soviet Union.

The Berlin Blockade was the Soviets attempt to restrict the US, Great Britain, and Frances access to their sectors of Berlin. The blockade was implemented due the Soviet Unions Laramie over the US providing aid to Germany and other struggling countries. The Soviets blocked rail, road, and canal routes to West Berlin completely cutting off civilian access to essentials like food, fuel, electricity and medicine.

Berlin Airlift

This huge effort involved Allied planes flying through designated air corridors over Soviet occupied territory to deliver food, fuel, and other essential good to the people of West Berlin. The airlift was a humanitarian mission aimed at saving West Berliners from severe shortages. This was supposed to be a short term situation initially but the Soviets continued to refuse to lift the blockade making it become a long term situation.
