Establish a collaborative, cooperative learning environment on the first day of school with Marooned. Place students into groups of five and tell them that they are stranded on a deserted island. Explain that they must select five items from their personal belongings to help them survive and that each member of their group must contribute one thing. Give them about ten minutes to dig through their book bags, purses, or pockets to select necessary items. Then, have each group stand and explain what they selected and how each object is essential to their survival.

Six Word Story:

Make students describe their summers in a complete sentence using only six words. Have them switch papers with a classmate that has to add a comment comprised of only six words. It may appear easy but it’s a lot more difficult than it seems

I like this activity. It includes visual symbols of connection and self-introductions. The teacher prints her own name on the board, leaving some space between each letter. Then she tells the class something about herself. Next, she picks a student to come to the board, tell something about themselves and print their name crossing the teacher's as in a crossword puzzle. Students take turns telling something about themselves and adding their names. Volunteers copy the completed puzzle as a poster. To save time, the puzzle could be written on paper taped to the board and left up in first draft form .

Q the discovery man

At the first day of the new year I showed to my students the character called "Q the discovery man"( Q is the first letter of QUARTO =4th and we are in the 4th grade).
Every student told classmates about his summer discoveries ; only the students with the character in his hand could talk! Then they drew them on sheets of paper.
Finally we created a poster and we hung it on the classroom door.
They had fun!

We send "A Friendship Sparkle", children in the circle holding their hands together. They say : "A Friendship Sparkle I'm sending around, let's her be back to my hand". They squeeze gently a hand of a child standing on their right, one by one.

This year my sixth grade group is new to me. To know ourselves, we have made a self-portrait and we have accompanied it with a small composition titled, "Así soy yo" (That's how I am. I, as a teacher, have done it too. It is one of knowing others and of making oneself known to others. Then everyone has presented their work in class. In a panel we have placed our work.

Who Am I Game

Before your group arrives, prepare sticky nametags with the names of famous people (or any other people that EVERYONE in the group will know). For example, you can write:

_{SUPERMAN,I NDIANA JONES, HARRY POTTER, BATMAN, PRESIDENT , BRITNEY SPEARS
MICKEY MOUSE}

And so on. If you like, you could also stick labels on each person’s forehead instead of their back. Place one of the nametags on the upper back of each player. Once everyone has a nametag on their back, explain the rules to everyone: each person must try to figure out which famous person that they are, only asking “Yes” or “No” questions to gain clues about the name that is on their back

Every day in our kindergarten begins with the morning circle. This lasts no more than 10 minutes. We talk about the weather, about the mood, how many boys and how many girls are in the group today, and so on. And to better remember each other's names and make friends, we become in a circle and sing a song: "Who is with us today? Maria today with us .... and so about each child. Children like it very much!

This year my group of students is new. We need to know each other, so I propose an activity that is telling others how we think we are. We also draw. In a while the activity will change and we will have to describe the others and draw them. We presented it aloud in class and organized an exhibition with the works.

I like this activity.
Spending time lying on a palm-fringed beach, with tropical blue waters lapping at your feet, might seem like the perfect holiday ! But what if there was no umbrella to keep the sun off the head, no waiter to bring a frosted glass of water and no hotel to retreat to in the evening for a welcome shower and hot meal? It wouldn’t be long before that desert island paradise became the worst nightmare.
The first thing to remember, in a survival situation, is that a positive and optimistic frame of mind can be the difference between life and death.
The adaptability, calmness and clear thinking have all been instrumental in helping them get through the ordeal. However, it was that positive mental attitude that meant the battled on where others would have succumbed to despair and given up the routines necessary to sustain life.

Ask everyone to write an unique fact about themselves and give it to you. You then create a grid on a piece of paper which states the unique facts in each square. Each person is given a piece of paper (with one of the interesting facts written in each square) and then has to go around the group to find out the information and write the correct name in the grid. The first one to collect all the names in the correct squares is the winner...It is great for getting to know one another and have fun at the same time .
