I constantly compare how I view myself with and without makeup , which is why I decided to make the shape of the background two circles forming a venn diagram structure. Like a venn diagram it has two opposing sides but in the center, lays out what both sides have in common. To start, the left side is how I view myself with makeup. Unlike the right eye, this eye is smooth with no lines surrounding the lids. However, surrounding what seems to be the “perfect” eye, is veins because at times I get so irritated with myself that I feel the need to have makeup on or make sure I look good because I worry what others think. On the opposite side shows the side of me all natural, with lines surrounding the eyelids, which are my imperfections. I’m slowly starting to get used to having my bare face in public, but before I would hate walking out like this. I would get comments from both family and friends about how it looks like I’m depressed or haven’t slept or look “Discolored”. Hearing these comments hurt and made me feel insecure and further pushed me away from having any ounce of self love, especially coming from people that are supposed to uplift me. This lead me to add the extra eyes on the side, to symbolize how I feel all eyes are on me waiting to judge and make comments about my appearance. And the middle which is the part that connects the two, is a lipstick. The lipstick represents how I should love both sides no matter what. Just because I put on makeup doesn’t mean I’m ugly naturally. I shouldn't view putting on makeup as negative thing but I also shouldn’t view it as a necessity. From the right side I was really able to self reflect throughout this project, I came to the conclusion that I need to learn how to self love.
