Peter Brown who is known for his work The Wild Robot, Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, and a plethora of other books found his passion for writing at a young age. Peter Grew up in New Jersey and wanted to bring the characters he created in his mind to paper to tell their stories. Brown went on later to study illustration at Art College of Design in California. During his time there he took classes on children's literature and found what genre of writing he wanted to do. He moved to New York City to be near where all the publishers are so he could better his chances of selling his books. His first book was Flight of The Dodo and from that his success began as did his career.

Key insights of MR. Tiger Goes Wild, The Wild Robot, Curious Garden

When looking at Mr. Tiger Goes Wild and the key insights this book brings there’s a few big takeaways. Mr Tiger Goes wild is a book on impact and your actions speak louder than words When Mr. Tiger leaves society because he’s tired of it he unknowingly created and began change. He places the thought of uncertainty and choice in the animals around him. Within his actions he broke societal norms to be who he wanted to be. Which was crucial because when he returned he changed his home for the good. The animals all began to let loose and be who they wanted to be which is a strong message and thought we all need to put on the top of our mind.

Now when looking at Curious Garden Liam lives a pretty mundane life, but one day he finds this garden while looking around and takes care of it. Over the following seasons he takes care of this garden and then one day was surprised to find some other kids come and help him take care of the garden. Within Curious Garden and Mr. Tiger Goes wild there’s a compliment with one another because Liam went out of his way and did something that people were either scared to do and or never thought of doing and took care of that garden. Just as Mr. Tiger went against society to do his own thing. An important message in this book is that character is displayed when the lights aren’t on you. Also that your actions have power and meaning. Due to Liam taking the time to care for that plant he then became a role model to others and at the end of the book his entire home was thriving with nature and gardens because of his actions and choices. These messages are important for everyone to learn and reflect on.

The Wild Robot is a book and trilogy that focuses on the growth and change Roz must go through to survive and how the connections along the way shape her. The Wild Robot provides the important concept of acceptance with both oneself and the people around you or in her chase animals. Coming to terms with your own self is one all struggles with which is why this story is good because it gives kids a nudge that it’s all a process of figuring it out. Also this book goes with the other two books Brown wrote with this idea of changing the narrative of what society encourages or forces you to do. Your family and or friends may come from different backgrounds and life lessons, but that doesn’t mean they should be singled out.

When writing about The Curious Garden Peter Brown found the idea of the story when he was in New York. A place called the Highline which was just an abandoned railway with wildflowers and trees growing everywhere. He then saw this one beautiful piece of it which gave him the idea for the book. The Highline now is a famous park now.

From my research I have learned that stories aren't always this grand design you create in your head. Some of and many of the best stories are found and created when off the job. Like hanging out with family or walking in New York. To make good characters it's been apparent in my research that the best characters are adaptations of those around us and impact us. Also that children's literature is growing on who is their audience and how can they give kids a voice. In better terms children's books are progressive. So it it's very important to have authors like Peter Brown, Matt de la Pena, and Christian Robinson because these people bring different voices to literature and use their own personal lives and bring them to paper to display different worlds. And within these worlds are characters who products of their environment and these authors create stories bring important life lessons that kids and adults need to know and learn.
