1. Principle 1 Students’ beliefs or perceptions about intelligence and ability affect their cognitive functioning and learning.
-develop that confidence and belief that they are intelligent to maximize their potential

2. Principle 2:What students already know affects their learning.
-conceptual growth (adding on to what they already know) vs conceptual change (if what they know is incorrect, you'll have to help change it)

3. Principle 3: Students’ cognitive development and learning are not limited by general stages of development.
-Students are capable of higher level thinking. Our tendency is to group students based on their age levels. Students learn and grow differently-we cannot limit our students because we limit them by their labels (whether that be their age level, stages of development, etc)

4. Principle 4 Learning is based on context, so generalizing learning to new contexts is not spontaneous but instead needs to be facilitated.
-If the material is new to the students, you have to put things into context for students (framing)

5. Principle 5: Acquiring long-term knowledge and skill is largely dependent on practice.
-Need to deliberately give students time to practice their new skills

6. Principle 6: Clear, explanatory, and timely feedback to students is important for learning.
-giving good feedback on students work is important (specifically with good feedback-can't just say good work)

7. Principle 7: Students’ self-regulation assists learning, and self-regulatory skills can be taught.
-self regulation skills within students. These skills also can be taught or enhanced, specifically through direct instruction, modeling, support, and classroom organization and structure. Teachers can help students learn self-regulatory skills by introducing teaching strategies to enhance attention, organization, self-control, planning, and remembering, all of which can greatly facilitate learning.

8. Principle 8 Student creativity can be fostered.
-student creativity can be developed and nurtured. Promote diversity, approaches to completing tasks and solving problems, etc.
