He was thinking to himself how the adults react to him and how it made him feel. The adults were about business and not the care of the child. They conducted themselves in a way that showed they served the whole group and not the individual child. The management style was cold and rigid. The flip side- other half of the video showed what warm affect and kindness does for a student. As educators we have to keep an open mind to what our students are thinking and experiencing and not to hold things against them if they don't respond or do not know something. The second thing I took from this video is that we should create space for them to explore, problem solve, and communicate. There of course needs to be structure in our days. That's where classroom management comes in. A students behavior is parallel to their teachers/adults around them. They can sense when things in an adults life are bothering them which in turn makes them anxious, upset, or feeling defeated. Great work, Jack" This helps students who are struggling to focus prepare themselves and do what is expected without pointing out that they are NOT following rules and routines. 
A weakness I have is asking children to sit still for too long. I do have several children who can sit and learn for quite some time, but others who have a very short clock. I'll go on to tell them that that made me really grumpy, but I decided to take a couple of deep breaths, a nice warm shower, and I picked up a cup of coffee at Starbucks because that made me smile and made my morning better!

I guess I consider that classroom management because I talk a lot about mindfulness and try to incorporate ways to redirect some of my students that have big behaviors. I always remind them to take a few deep breaths, use their words so that I can help them, etc. By sharing that personal story during morning meeting with them, I show them that I use these regulation tools too. I also make sure to have these conversations in moments when there are no behaviors being shown. I think that helps to enforce the expectations and strategies we should use in the classroom and outside the classroom.

One area that I feel I could use more support on is when a student is exhibiting troubling behavior (throwing themselves on the floor, hitting, running away from me in the classroom, running outside onto the playground, throwing their shoes, etc), I often try multiple ways of classroom management. I have tried to ignore, react sternly that it is unacceptable because it is not safe, give them options, redirection, and self-regulation tools. If I am in the classroom alone and I try all those options, I often hit a wall and then choose to just ignore because I have to keep the other students engaged and safe. I think I would like to know what the plan should be from there. This can lead to a child acting out or not being able to express themself in a positive manner because they may not know how.
