Queen Elizabeth was a strong and powerful ruler. I will discuss how she used patronage, censorship and her privy council to rule England successfully. Her dedication to her country was shown through many ways in which we will explore. For these reasons, I will be taking the against side in the argument: ‘Elizabeth was a bully and a show-off’. However, overall I will be exploring both sides and views of this argument.

Queen Elizabeth I has been described as " a bully and a show-off" in the way she used her power. This description is for the most part an accurate one, however i would have to object to any negative judgments being made on her character because of this, since it was in my opinion necessary for her to act in this way.

Some historians believe Queen Elizabeth I to have been a bully and a braggart who abused her absolute powers in matters of state. I am of the opinion that Elizabeth’s occasional brutality and apparent conceit were necessary tools in controlling a turbulent socio-political situation in England, in light of the challenges she faced. Favouritism and cruelty were not as politically incorrect as they are considered today.

Throughout Elizabeth I's reign, in 1558-1602, she used her power to influence others as a "bully and a show-off", however, only to an extent as she was forced to do so to maintain control over her country. This was demonstrated by the way she was driven to ruthlessly command the nation through Parliament, her Privy Council and Patronage.

Queen Elizabeth I had to be a Bully and thus appear as a show-off to a certain extent in order to retain power, due to the fact that she was a young and female ruler. In addition she was a protestant queen in a largely catholic nation, which presented opportunities for rebellion, both internal and external.

Queen Elizabeth, 1558-1603, was a strong female figure of her time. She had majority of the population under control, however when she came to the throne she still faced many challenges, for example as she was a woman many men didn’t believe her to be a strong ruler down to her sex. In this essay I will look at the conflicting evidence that outline whether she was a strong ruler. Many believe she was strong leader.

Queen Elizabeth the 1st was a bully and a show off. In this essay, I will discuss the matter and put forward my point of view for both sides. She used many different ways of using power for example, patronages, deciding what could be discussed in court, controlling her privy council and more. She used this t control England.
