Sacagawea was just 16 or 17 when she lead a group of Americans to be a translator and to have to go back to a place that she had not seen since she was taken at 11 or 12 years old. Sacagawea would be a key player in a Corps of Discovery because we are heading toward where she was from.Sacagawea has good ways of knowing what the people in the discovery can eat and what is poisonous to eat. When Sacagawea was taken from her tribe at 11 or 12 she was part of the Lemhi Shoshone till 4 years ago when the Mandan and Hidatsa took her. She would be representing peace because war parties never travel with women and children. She would also be very valuable because she can speak the language that some native americans speak. When the members of the crops walked through part of her family's territory she met her brother that she had not seen for 4 years. She helped communicate with the native americans and make a safe journey across the territory that they crossed.

Directions: In the post you will describe one plant and one animal that was “discovered” on the expedition. Write down what you think the members of the corps thought about these species. Be sure to describe these animals in detail, including features that might have been unusual or strange for the explorers to witness. Make sure to also include how these plants and animals would have been used to help benefit the lives of the American people. You should write 1-2 paragraphs for the plant you select and 1-2 paragraphs for the animal you select.

Plant
When the members of the crops went on their journey they would find different kinds of plants that would most likely not have been known to be in the eastern part of the country. When they were finding these plants they would need to know if it was good to eat or not. This is where Sacagawea came in and helped the members of the crops find out what is good and bad for them. Like the Oregon Crab Apple for example is one of the good things that they ate on their voyage. These helped people get a healthy dose of calcium and let them eat it on the way.

Animal
I think that members of the corps thought that the animals were strange. The animals that they had in the eastern side of the state would be different because of the weather conditions. One animal that the members of the crops had probably not seen were a lot of buffalo. The animals have a calm nature but when provoked can be dangerous. The buffalo would benifit the members of the crops by providing food and skin/fur that can be used and made into blankets or clothing.

As Smallpox made their numbers small with only about 250 people. When Lewis and Clark asked for peace with the tribe and the surrounding ones the tribe leader said yes.
