I am very excited to use the site word QR codes. I will be student teaching in a first grade classroom and I know that students are becoming more fluent in their word recognition and site words. I could use this tool for students to practice site words in a new way that could bring the words to life. They could hear the words audibly and see the words. I think this would be a very engaging tool for all of my first graders!

When looking at the Pinterest QR codes, I liked the Alphabet QR Code packet. I think this could be used to show what the letter looks like and then by running the QR scanner across the QR code students can hear what the letter is and the sound the letter makes. This would be helpful for kindergartens who are learning their letters and sounds and for students who need additional support. This activity can be used in a listening center.

I am most excited to use QR codes for writing prompts. It can be tiring to thing of extenstions to accompany read alouds. I want to create my own QR code writing prompts for the books that I own so that following a read aloud students have choices for how they want to respond to the story or informational text. This could be really good for writing about what they learned in an informational text or what questions they would ask the author. I could even use these during children's choice reading time and they could all be working on a prompt and book that interests them.

I am excited to use QR Codes to reinforce math concepts. When we think about integrating technology in the classroom we tend to think about using it for science or reading. Math is usually not thought of as integrated with technology. I think that integrating QR codes with math will give students excitement about the topics being covered. It can be used as a review tool or to introduce a new topic. How cool would it be to hand a student who missed class a QR code to go look at to catch them up. I would use QR Codes to do this so that my students have a chance to catch up a little without me having to pause class and reteach.

They would just hold up their device to the computer or whiteboard and point it at the QR code. It would be so much more fun to explore a prezi with QR codes that lead to the author's website, video, read alouds than just talking about it! I definitely will use QR codes for things like this!

Teachers could make a binder with QR codes that lead to audio books or even videos of someone reading the story. This allows students to interact with stories in various ways. A binder full of stories would take up less room than a single book. I am excited to utilize this idea.

I have used QR codes in some of my past lessons and the only frustration I have with the ones that I chose was that I went back now almost a year later, and the link had expired. But, in those lessons, my students were fully engaged and loved using the technology so I'm excited to incorporate it into my classroom. I really loved the idea of having prerecorded readings of stories in my classroom for kids to access at home. This way, they don't need a parent to help read a book, they quite possibly don't even need a physical book in hand to have access to reading. If a rioting prompt is also added, there is space for parents to also get involved in the child's learning.

I would also use them for spelling words too. I would create the QR codes to help the children practice their spelling words, the link would go to someone saying the word then spelling it that way the students can hear the letters as well. They will also have a paper that they have to spell them on and get it checked by their parents and turn it in the next day. This way I am able to see that they know how to spell them on paper as well as out loud.

I think that letting students explore, on their own, the use of QR codes in reading would be a really fun and knowledgeable way to use them. On Pinterest, the Read Box showed up, and I thought it was a current and fun example to use in the classroom. Students can pick a book which has been read in class, and they can either talk about the book, ask questions about the content, in which the other students would have to answer, or they can even add their own insights. the students will become more involved with the reading and they interact with what the other students are discovering about the books, too.

This wasn't necessarily an idea found on the website, but I love the idea of using QR codes for literature. You can use a literature scavenger
hunt as motivation for students to read more. You could use QR codes to create a scavenger hunt/pathway for them to follow. They scan QR codes and get hints after every book, that eventually lead to a treasure. The books will be part of a unit or a theme and there can be activities to do along with each book.

I really like the QR Code Stories because I think it is a great idea to combine reading and technology. I have used QR codes in lessons before and students are always so excited to try something new with technology and they always have so much fun with it. What I like about this activity is that, as the teacher I could have the QR code bookmark a certain page in a book, or bring up the whole book when students scan the code. By doing this students could fill out worksheets, for example the ones below, without all fighting over one book to look for the answers. All the students would need to do is scan the QR code on the worksheet and the book, or page, would show up and his or her device and the student could easily answer the questions being asked.

I love this idea! I have always wondered what would be a good but compact way of providing multiple resources for parents when they try to work with their children on their vocabulary words. I think that parents get over whelmed by large packets, but when they see that there is something compact and organized to work with, the parents can easily pick and choose the materials that I send with them to see what works well with them and their child. The only thing would be, is to figure out a way for parents to get a QR code reader for them at home. Most parents will have a smart phone on them, but if not I can provide resources that would not require a QR code reader.

This is because I am always fearful that I will be most overwhelmed by the task of teaching reading to a young age. Understanding the letters and their sounds is going to be essential to begin early. I like the QR codes for the letters because it's different than the flashcards of the letter with a picture of an animal that starts with that sound. That is most of what I see in the classrooms today. I'm hoping through the QR app I will be able to teach them the letters through visual and not audio because they will be listening to the sound/video/noise associated with that letter. I will have this be a center for sure for my future classroom. I would like to even have a way to incorporate touch to the sounds as well, such as "f" for feather.

I could use this in any of the classrooms I will be teaching (ECE, IS, High school IS). The way I would use this in any of my classrooms is that I would make the QR helpful hints to help my students when they get stuck on any of the three parts of a book we read together. I know that sometimes it is hard for students to want to ask for help, especially in front of their peers or when their peers can see them coming up to the teacher for help. This could help students by allowing them to check for helpful hints or pictures instead of having to ask questions right off the bat.

Kelsey Lamp
One idea I am most excited to use in my classroom is the QR Codes and Writing Prompts. I like this one because it not only allows students to choose from multiple stories, but it then provides the students with a prompt they are already eager to talk about anyway once they finish a book. I think this not only helps with comprehension, but it also helps with students to go in depth with what they just read, using technology to answer questions about the book. One additional thing I thought was great about this QR Code is that it provides an English and non-English version for ELL's and such. This is a great way to help those students who need additional assistance or to provide them with their own language so they can understand what they are reading better.

QR Codes to Teach Alphabet Sounds - Lindsey Laudermilk

This idea was the first that I encountered on the blog; however, it really excited me for several reasons. First, teaching letter sounds can be such a challenge and integrating technology into this task would be so exciting for the students. The main reason that I loved this idea was because last semester I tutored a first grader who simply could not master his letter sounds. However, visuals and auditory aids helped him so much. Something like this would have made all the difference for him. Instead of frustration with worksheets that didn't come to life, he could have experimented with different letter sounds through technology and QR codes. I really look forward to using something like this in my classroom when I have students who are struggling to make the connection between letters and sounds. I will allow them to use such technology to enhance their learning in a way that I simply may not have the time to put in at all times.

This activity was the first one to catch my eye. I think that learning the alphabet should be fun and exciting! I am very much a visual learner. If I had these resources around when I was learning letter sounds, it would have been much easier (and much more fun). In my class, I will use this tool for any of my students that may have trouble with certain letter sounds. I would work on a few letters every week. This can be very useful, because this allows students to be more independent and discover letter sounds on their own.

In my classroom, I will use technology and QR Codes more frequently. One of the examples from the site was to have the students that needed certain letters and sounds reinforced to use a tablet and a QR Code. They can scan the code, and it will bring up a letter. The site will have an example of the letter, a picture of an example that starts with that letter and the sound(s) of the letter makes. This is such a simple tool to use in the classroom and teaching phonics. With the ways that the technological world is evolving, most families have a smartphone or tablet at home. If needed, the activity could be an added homework assignment. It is important to get students involved in their learning.

QR codes are a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom while extending and enhancing learning. After reading through all of the great ways to use QR codes in the classroom, my favorite was the sight word activity. By creating links for each word to videos that were related, students would be able to connect the words to other concepts. This would help with memorization, while also making learning fun. Furthermore, in my future classroom I could place these QR codes and sight words in a folder, and they could be used in a center as guided practice. Another option would be sending the papers home with students so that parents can practice with them. This is definitely something that I will incorporate into my ECE classroom.

I also liked the idea of creating an activity or worksheet for a specific read aloud story that had the story's QR code printed right on the worksheet. When it comes to teaching young children it is very important for them to hear different stories read aloud (helps to increase their knowledge about how to read a book, vocabulary words, sequencing, and more). However, as a busy teacher I may not be able to carve out a time in the day when I can read a story aloud to the whole group (and add an extension assignment). Thus, providing a worksheet or a packet of QR codes for read alouds can allow students to listen to books in a specific center time or during their free time during the day.

The students can see the letter and listen to the various sounds the letters can make in different words.

Personally, my favorite idea for QR codes would be to have a "book tasting" and use the codes as a way to give my students quick descriptions of books for them to use in choice readings. I have seen book tasting ides before, which normally use real copies of each book, but if you do not have enough resources to do that, this is an easy alternative! Students can spend a set amount of time (1-2 minutes) at each QR code and read or listen to an introduction of the book, author, themes, etc.

One way I could use this in the future would be by having my students do a letter report where they read as many books about a specific letter that they can then create a poster board to present to the class.

Wow! I have always loved QR codes and what a tool this can be, but this takes it to the next level. I love the idea of using it for an alphabet book. It is an easy way for the students to practice on their own. You could even put videos on yourself on there pronouncing the letter and giving tips along the way. This could be applied to any content area really. I think I would have them all over my walls because they save space and are self exploratory.

I am really excited about using Mathematics QR Codes. I think that by integrating this type of tech into math can help students gain interest in learning more about the topic! I think that if I had QR Codes for each topic and printed it on a laminated sheet, I could hang that sheet up on the board at the beginning of that lesson, and students would be able to acess it for homework help, and also be able to use it as part of their group work during the activity! Such an awesome tool!
