In the book "I Survived D-Day" by Lauren Tarshis. An eleven year old boy named Paul living in a small town in France near the Normandy beaches during WWII. All Paul wants is for the war to end, he's lost his best friend and his father to the dangerous and tragic war. However he's just an eleven year old boy what can he do, but one day he finds an American Paratrooper stuck in a tree. Subsequently he cuts him down and helps him to a safe place in the woods, an old, rugged and destroyed castle, but they're not the only one's their the Resistance, a group of people helping the Allies with the War in enemy territory. The Resistance then got a message from the Allies they needed them to take down these big guns, so that they could invade Normandy. After much planning and perpetration the paratrooper and some other had to find the guns, but they got ambushed and they found where they were. Now they just had to blow them up behind a fence that was heavily guarded. In the end they found a way, but Paul was the only one who knew how to get there unnoticed. Paul and another Resistance member went to the guns going over bushes and over fences until they saw them. One at a time they put the bombs on them with little to no difficulty. At last Paul thought they might win until the invasion started and they were right over the Germans base so they ran and ran until safety turning their weapons against them. He was a hero.

"No Paul," Mr. Leon said, putting his hand on Paul's head. "No boy should do anything like this"(Tarshes 69).

This quote is important because Mr. Leon is telling Paul you shouldn't do this, but Paul rejects and learns that no matter how small or how old you are. You can always make an impact, so don't believe what other people say and trust in yourself.

Paul is challenged with hard problems and hard situations. I can relate because sometimes I don't trust in God's path as the Bible says, "follow God's plan, not your own" (Isiah 55:8-9). Paul is faced with hard decisions too, and I can be faced in those decisions and crumble in the face of pressure.
