Gavin- The reason the South could win the war by not losing, but the North could only win the war by winning is because the South was fighting a defensive war and only wanted the North to leave them alone, whereas the North was invading the South. Since the North was fighting to bring the South back into the Union, they were forced to invade the South if they were to win. On the other hand, the South only had to fight off Northern intruders, and if the North stopped invading, the South will have won.
