I have learnt that checking the class news and announcement is very important for this course throughout the semester in order to gain success. The orientation week was very hectic for me but it was also very helpful as to what we the students need to be aware of and to stay on top with assignments and discussions.

This week I felt that this discussion was a big challenge. Why do I say this? Many times we, the student do research papers and never did take into consideration of how important these components are.
I felt that I have learnt how to organize any research paper, whether at University or on the job. These steps will guide me on the the right track. During my research I was amazed by so many new materials that I had to take into account. How to layout my materials in a way that the reader should be able to understand which is very important? I learnt how to writing an abstract properly. This should be succinct. Which is briefly and clearly expressed.

I would recommend this to anyone who is going to schools, colleges or in the work place because it gives a clear guide line on how to organised a research paper.

Hi guys,

I have had some challenges in my professional career as well as my school work. It’s a lot but step by step I will get there. I finally get time to send off my survey topic to be approved hopefully I would get it back soon. The downloading of the sceencastomatic was not bad as I thought.

In Unit2, I have learnt so much about a survey. What it is and how it is used? Why is it important for many businesses and other institution to conduct a survey? I have also learnt there are many different types of surveys, several ways to administer them, and many methods of sampling. There are two key features of survey research:

• Questionnaires -- a predefined series of questions used to collect information from individuals

• Sampling -- a technique in which a subgroup of the population is selected to answer the survey questions; the information collected can be generalized to the entire population of interest. Surveys can be done in descriptive and explanatory research.

Regards

Kemona

Hi Everyone
I must admit that this week was not as bad as all the other weeks. I got to read the entire unit 5, and it was rather interesting.
I learnt about the population and sample. The different types of population and sample. I have also learnt the ways of deriving representative samples for research surveys: probability sampling and non-probability sampling:
Probability or random sampling involves choosing respondents from your target population at random minimising potential sample bias and Non-probability or purposive sampling this involves the types of respondents chosen for the survey in terms of quotas and we specifically look for different types of people to interview to make sure the sample is correctly balanced.

Regards
Kemona

Hi everyone,

I must stay that this course is getting better as the week progresses. My week went exceptionally well this week. I got to achieved all that I wanted too and I must say that I’m feeling optimistic about this course now. I’m seeing the light at the tunnel.

We are now at unit 6 which speak about sampling design for survey research. This unit was very short and interesting. I learnt about the factors affecting the choice of sampling design. These are probability and non- probability. This is to ensure that every element of the population has a chance to be included in the sample. It also highlighted the different between the two probabilities which is non-probability and probability sampling is that non-probability sampling does not involve random selection and probability sampling does. .Some of the types of non- probability were mention such as convenience or accidental sampling, Purposive sampling, Modal instance sampling, Expert sampling Proportional and non-proportional quota sampling. For probability are random, stratifying and clustering.

Best regards

Kemona

Hi guys, hope all is well with everyone.

This week debate was not bad. My partner and I had already started on our question early, so we were ahead. We were on the agreeing side and so information was not that difficult to get. The topic we had to write on was as follows: It is both time consuming and expensive to undertake a census. A survey based on a sample, can be executed much quicker and at a fraction of the cost of undertaking a census. A properly executed survey, based on a representative sample, is therefore the better approach. We started, out with a clear definition of a sample and census as well as highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of a survey along with our supporting argument and examples of why a sample is far better choice to use rather than conducting a survey.

This group debate was not a bad attempt at all. In the past I have worked with persons who did not contributed or did little work for group assignments. My partner and I worked very well in attaching this topic. We came to an agreement within minutes and so things went smoothly. It was a good experience for me. Thanks much to Mr. Kelly and Ms Mohammed.

Regards

Kemona

Hi everyone,
I am having some difficulties in obtaining information on my data collection research. I was told to write a letter to the commissioner which i have done but still awaiting information on the current status of crime in St Kitts for my research paper. This data collection is very difficult as plays a part of the quality of my research. I have learnt that in doing data collection one has to prepare and manage the process for a smooth operation. It also highlighted the planing and training aspect of going about collecting data. With regards to the budget some of the items included were salaries and other personnel cost, travel cost and living expenses. Some methods that were taking into consideration when collecting data are quantitative and qualitative methods such as the questionnaires, mail surveys, interviews etc. These methods have many advantages and disadvantages.

This week unit was straight forwards and very easily understood but my problems lies in obtaining information for my data collection process.

Regards
Kemona
