‘a look in the mirror’ helps you reflect on how we present ourselves through fashion in public spaces. Taking you through different scenarios, you reflect on how a change of scenery (often) entails a change of presentation through fashion.

Why we settled on 'A Look in the Mirror'

We knew beforehand we wanted to do a micro-action that had something to do with clothing and the existing binaries around what we can and can't wear. We wanted to make the audience aware of certain possible restrictions they experienced with particular clothing items, and challenge them to break them in a way. That is how we eventually settled on 'A Look in the Mirror'.

We ended up really liking how the micro-action turned out. People picked wide-ranging scenarios and got really passionate about dressing us in different types of outfits. While dressing us, we actively engaged in discussion on why exactly they picked certain garments and how they felt these adhered to existing binaries around clothing. The audience consisted of a mix of staff and students, and our wardrobes combined made for interesting combinations that we ourselves had not yet tried before (Bente's wardrobe was a huge success). Especially when constructing the second outfit, when throwing the binaries out of the window, resulted in fruitful conversations on why these binaries are in place, how they restrict us, and most of all inspired new ways of thinking. Overall, it made us rethink the way we wear our clothes, and the places we wear them to. We think the audience had the same :)
