1) Your Twenties Are Your Physical and Reproductive Peak

In her twenties a woman’s eggs are at the best quality they will ever be, and her risk of miscarriage is the lowest. A woman’s twenties are the lowest-risk time for her to physically bear a baby, heal after birth, and continue to physically sustain a baby through nursing.

2) Reduced Risk of Birth Defects

Speaking of that. Noting that a woman’s eggs are the best quality when she’s in her twenties. This is also true for a man’s sperm, by the way. Unhealthy eggs and sperm make unhealthy babies. This is why risks for birth defects and conditions such as autism increase markedly as mothers and fathers age.

3) Kids Make You More Efficient With Time and Money

the pressure kids put on family time and finances has forced us to manage both better. According to report, Fathers in particular are more likely to achieve more in their careers and earn more money than their childless peers. That study also found that mothers earned more than childless peers, and that men are more likely to work full-time if they have children.

4) You can not be replaced

You can be a big fish in a small pond of your family and community, or a small fish in the Great Lakes of professional life. A boss can almost always pretty easily replace you. Your children cannot. If you want to be a hero, leader, or celebrity, the number-one way to get there is by having children. You are their world—truly. Almost none of us will be able to say the same professionally.
------------------
miscarriage: sảy thai
bear a baby: có thai
autism: tự kỷ
childless peers: bạn chưa có con

4 Reasons To Love Mondays

1. Monday Is an Opportunity To Start Fresh

I’ve heard someone calling Mondays the “mini new Year” and I loved it! You don’t have to wait till the next year to start eating healthier or jogging in the morning. Next Monday is as good as January 1st to start creating the life you love. Even better, cause there isn’t so much pressure and things to do as it is in January!

Frankly, you don’t even need to wait for Monday.

2. You Can’t Appreciate A Friday Without A Monday

There was no good without the bad, no joy without sorrow, no peace without war, and they’re definitely couldn’t be love without the sour taste of hate. You had to know what one felt like to fully experience and appreciate the other.

- Jay Crwownover –

You get it, right? You would never love Friday so much when it finally comes or appreciate the weekend if all those hardworking days didn’t come before that.

3. Stand out: nổi bật

Stand Out is a secretive point out of the reasons why Mondays are great. It’s the fact that everyone’s around is lazy on a Monday morning. As most of them overslept during the weekend, which makes them dull; hence you have the opportunity to be different.

Everyone is grumpy and lazy, and you have a magnificent chance to stand out varied, active, and productive.

4) A Day for MISTAKES

Mondays are a day for mistakes. If you’re going to make a mistake (and let’s be real, mistakes happen all the time), make it on a Monday, because that way, you have the rest of the week to fix it, instead of worrying all weekend that by the time Monday rolls around, that mistake will be irreversible.

--------------------
•Shift your perspective!

•ready to rock the new week!

•stagnant life! : cuộc sống trì trệ

•Stand out = Be outstanding: nổi bật

•Grumpy: gắt gỏng

Why people procrastinate?

1. They Are All About Their Feelings

People procrastinate because they are all about their feelings. Let me ask you this question, “Who wants to wake up early at 5 am when they can choose to sleep comfortably on their warm bed?”
The answer is no one. If I can choose, I will choose to live comfortably without taking action and still produce outstanding success in life.
Humans are all about feelings. Nobody feels like waking up early in the morning, and no one wants to work hard or train hard to reach their goals.
If you are all about your feelings, your feelings will control you. You will never want to take action when you are in bad mood. You will never want to work on your dream, and you will choose to watch TV or play games because it is pleasurable and joyful.

2. They Make Lousy Excuses
The second reason people procrastinate because they always make lousy excuses. They say things like:
“This is too hard.”
“I have no idea how to do this.”
“I can always do it later, I have time now.”
There are much more examples of lousy excuses people make each day to procrastinate.
What you say to yourself matters. You have to be careful about how you talk to yourself because you are listening!
The next time you caught yourself giving lame excuses and wanted to put things off or delay your work, change your self-talk.
Replace “I have to” with “I choose to”
Replace “I must finish” with “When can I start?”
Replace “This project is so big and important” with “I can take one small step”

3. They Don’t Feel the Pleasure of Doing It

Would you want to do something you hate? Of course not, and that is why you procrastinate doing things that you do not like.
You have to make it fun. Just like doing your favorite things or your hobby. Ever wonder why some people able to burn the midnight oil to finish the drama they loved or to play the games they craved?
So all you need to do is to make the work fun.

-------------------
procrastination: sự trì hoãn
procrastinate: trì hoãn

A lack of precipitation is actually what defines an area as a desert, and there are several factors that can cause this. One of the most prominent causes is the blocking of precipitation by nearby mountain ranges. This can happen if the mountains are perpendicular to the predominant wind flow. Let’s take Hai Van Pass as a telling example. It’s lead to the difference weather between north and south Vietnam.

Desert conditions in the Sahara are caused by weather patterns, rather than by mountain ranges. The Sahara region is dominated by a large, semi-permanent, sub-tropical high pressure system. High pressure systems are typically characterized by dry and stable conditions. Additionally, air within a high pressure zone is heavier than air in a low pressure zone, so it tends to sink. Air needs to move up to cool, form clouds and create rain. If the high pressure system is strong and unmoving, it will prevent rain in the long-term.

-----------------------
precipitation= rain
sub-tropical high pressure: áp cao cận nhiệt đới
prominent = remarkable
perpendicular : cao, thẳng đứng

Advantages of studying at night

1. Night owls show a higher ability to stay alert and concentrate

If you are already used to staying up and working till late, you will be able to study harder and for a longer duration as compared to early risers, based on a study conducted by University of Liege. Early risers can only stay alert and active for 10 hours post waking up before they experience mental fatigue. After that, they start performing tasks at a much slower pace, as they are more sensitive to sleep pressure.
2. Better retention of information

According to a study conducted, you tend to remember information better if you study it right before you sleep. If you revise information at night and then sleep on it, the retention of that information is superior. If a day of wakefulness follows your learning time, you might not be able to remember that information as readily. Basically, if you study in the morning, constant distractions and new information can make it difficult to recall what you previously learned. Because of this, the information that was previously memorised or learned will be forgotten.

3. Less exam stress

British researchers have found that early risers have higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, than those who like to sleep late. The cortisol levels of early risers continue to remain high throughout the day, not just during the morning. This means early risers are more stressed about exams than night owls. Since night owls are calmer, they can get work done more efficiently, instead of wasting time panicking
-------------
night owls >< early risers = early birds
mental fatigue: tinh thần mệt mỏi
wakefulness: sự tỉnh táo
revise: ôn lại

Disadvantages of studying at night

1. You can easily forget what you learned

Everything that you learn at odd hours is actually stored in your short-term memory. This memory type doesn’t facilitate extended retention, in fact, it deteriorates quickly. If you don't use the information you have studied shortly, then it disappears within a period of a few minutes to a few hours. So when you cram new chapters late at night, it doesn't allow that information to transcend from short-term to long-term memory, which is important to prepare for an exam that might be months away.

2. Your brain loses efficiency with each hour of sleep deprivation

Every hour that you stay up, you get weary and so does your brain. According to a study by Texas A&M Medical College, it was observed that studying late into the night can result in a sharp decrease in performance for specific learning and memory tasks. Our peak cognitive efficiency happens earlier in the day and by studying late at night we’re fighting against our natural body clock.

3. You may have less focus at school

Irrespective of whether you are a night owl or an early riser, you need to follow a school timetable. You need to wake up at a certain time every morning and get yourself to class. If you have been studying late at night, it will be difficult for you to stay awake in class. If somehow you do manage to stay awake, your brain would have reached its capacity to take in information. Your brain hasn’t had enough time to reboot, which means you won’t be able to pay attention when new concepts are taught in class. This leaves you with countless doubts and in turn makes self-study more difficult.

Whether you’re a night owl or not, one thing is clear, you need enough sleep to be able to do justice to your learning. Cramming a night before the exam isn’t advantageous, nor is slogging all day and not taking enough breaks.

-------------
facilitate: tạo điều kiện

retention: sự giữ lại, duy trì nhất quán
deteriorates: giảm giá trị, xấu đi
weary: mệt mỏi = tired
cramming a night: nhồi nhét trong 1 đêm
cram a chapter: học nhồi nhét 1 chương học
natural body clock: đồng hồ sinh học tự nhiên
slog: khai thác

Some facts about pyramids

1. The Ancient Egyptians were not the first to build pyramids
Humans have been making structures in the pyramid shape for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians are the most well-known pyramid builders, though, maybe because so many survived. The interesting thing that they built four-sided pyramids (an alternative is the three-sided pyramid), and to build them the Egyptians had to measure a perfect square as a base. I think four-sided structure made pyramids in Egypt stronger.
2. The Sphinx guards the pyramids

The sphinx is part of ancient Egyptian mythology. It has a head of a human, but the body of a lion. Sometimes the image of the face that was used in depictions was a god or pharaoh. Many sphinx figures were built in areas where the ancient Egyptians wanted to be protected from evil spirits and spells, including temples and tombs. The Great Sphinx used to be painted in bright colors, but as with the nose, the weather has taken its toll and it looks different today than it did in the time of the ancient Egyptians.
3. The pyramids were NOT built by slaves

For many years, through film, it was believed that slaves built the pyramids, but more recently historians have concluded that the workers were in fact skilled artisans who were well-fed and well-paid. The Egyptians wanted to contribute to these great architectural wonders and saw their importance in national pride and religion. It would have taken 10,000 workers approximately ten years to build each individual pyramid.
4. The curse of the pharaohs protects the pyramids

The curse of the pharaohs is a legend that is meant to protect to the pharaohs and their tombs from potential robbers. The curse is supposed to be cast upon anyone who disturbs the mummy of a pharaoh. Superstitions have grown over the years as archaeologists, who have been working on the tombs to discover more about the ancient Egyptians, have been struck with bad luck and sometimes even death, which has been attributed by some as part of the curse.

Some experts have argued that the reason many of the first people to enter the tombs became ill was not due to a supernatural curse, but instead bacteria or radiation. This theory is unproven though.
-----------------------------
New words:

The Sphinx: tượng nhân sư

Take its/a toll: damage, make loss

Superstition: sự mê tín

Artisan: thợ thủ công

Off the top of one's head: bật ra trong đầu

Mythology: thần thoại

Radiation: sự bức xạ

Bacteria: vi khuẩn

Pharaoh: Vua Ai Cập

5 Common Tinder Mistakes You Need to Avoid Making

1. Sharing Too Much Personal Information on Tinder

While Tinder apparently no longer shows mutual Facebook friends, there are still other profiles that can be linked to the dating app. For example, you are able to link your Instagram account and Spotify playlists.

However, if you're not careful about what you link, you could share too much personally identifiable information with strangers.

While you should include some information about yourself (or risk being considered a bot), you should also make sure to protect your privacy on Tinder. Don't share your home address, your work address, or other private information with matches.

2. Lying on Your Tinder Profile

While you should keep some details on Tinder private, this doesn't mean you should lie on your profile. You may be asking yourself: "Should I use my real name on Tinder?".

Our answer would be yes, since using a fake name may create an impression of attempted catfishing or impersonation. It starts the match off on the wrong foot. So make sure to use your real name on Tinder, or at least your nickname. In general, if you want to have a pleasant experience on Tinder, don't lie about yourself.

Be clear with what you're looking for from the experience. This will enable you to find people with similar goals, such as those seeking a potential long-term partner.

3. Not Checking Your Tinder Match's Actual Age

Tinder is limited to users who are 18 years of age or older.

Furthermore, people are able to hide their age on Tinder with a Tinder Plus account. There are also users who don't put their real age on the app.

4. Choosing the Wrong Tinder Profile Picture

Many users swipe pretty quickly on Tinder. They won't necessarily take the time to look at multiple photos and your bio unless your first picture makes an impression. Therefore, you need to make sure that the first photo on your profile is your best.

You should also make sure it only features you rather than a group of friends. Don't use heavily edited images that don't look at all like you. Also avoid old images that no longer reflect how you look. This causes more problems than it's worth.

5. Swiping Right Too Much or Too Little on Tinder

Even if there's no penalty in the algorithm, swiping right on every profile can clearly reduce the quality of matches that Tinder is able to provide. After all, Tinder's algorithm is unable to learn your preferences if you don't seem to have any at all.
--------------
catfishing: câu cá (girls be like fish)
impersonation: mạo danh
starts the match off on the wrong foot: to have a bad start. Said of something that goes or has gone awry at the very beginning.

It is this that makes many people, even though they get up on time but still start a day feeling depressed, tired, even just want to return to their beloved bed to . continue to sleep.
Here are 7 extremely bad habits that experts warn each person to change right away to get up early to properly promote its effect: get up early to start a new day full of energy and energy.
1. Turn on the "delay alarm" button (Snooze)

Most sleep studies suggest that delaying alarms is not good. That's because, in part, if you fall into a deep sleep after turning on the alarm delay button, you continue to go into sleep cycles that will definitely not be complete. So, wake up in a drowsy state, groan rather than continue to sleep.
2. Shrink

If you haven't turned on the delay button, congratulations. However, to be more cheerful, don't curl up or curl up in the blanket. According to Harvard University psychologist , straightening your body while lying in bed (after waking up) is a great way to activate your day 's confidence . Cuddy also added that the straightening of the two-arm straightening routine makes each person feel extremely comfortable and happy. Conversely, if you curl up like "fetal posture", you will wake up in a very stressful mood.

3. Check message

If you start the morning this way , "you will never be awake".
4. Do not clean the bed

Although it is unclear whether folding blankets after waking up will increase productivity or those who live in the organization are more likely to clean up the bed early in the morning, however, cleaning the bed after A few minutes of waking up is a habit of playing a key role in "igniting" the chain reaction, making other good habits developed.

5. Drink coffee

If you think you won't be able to wake up if you don't take a sip of coffee, you need to think again.
Your body produces a hormone called cortisol (stress hormone) that helps regulate energy from about 8 to 9 am. So, for most people, the best time to drink coffee is after 9:30 am.
If you drink coffee before this time, your body will start adjusting itself by reducing the amount of cortisol produced in the early morning, which means you still feel tired and very uncomfortable when you wake up early.

6. Leave the room too dark

The biological clock in our body is very sensitive to light and darkness . Therefore, if after awakening, the room is still lacking in light, it is very difficult for your body to recover and sleepiness is inevitable.
7. No plan

Maybe you drink water, maybe you hear some melody and maybe you call a friend .
These activities, in essence, are good. However, it is best that you link them to a specific habit, such as waking up and drinking water while listening to music; After that, get dressed, go to work and call friends on the way to the bus stop.
Scientists say that the willpower of Willpower is limited and when we use it very early on every day to decide what to do next, in the rest of the day, they We will find it more difficult to focus on work.
Instead, let the brain be operated automatically in the morning and store spiritual resources when you really need them.

Now commit yourself: do not turn off the delay button, do not read the email, do not drink coffee too early, do not bend on the bed, fold the blanket after having woken up for a while, open the window in the morning Early and keep your body comfortable before starting a new day to study and work.
-----------------------------
New words

Drowsy: Lơ mơ, chưa tỉnh ngủ

Groan: rên rỉ

Curl up: nằm cuộn tròn

Cuddy: nằm ngửa

Inevitable: không thể tránh khỏi

Ignite: châm ngòi

Unemployment remains the biggest challenge to school-leavers in most countries

Adolescents face several challenges on their path to adulthood and successful career. And it becomes even more difficult for school-leavers as sorting their ways out in the employment market seems to be the immediate obstacle they encounter.

Regarding the problems fresh school graduates face, the most acute is the scepticism harboured by employers over hiring them. It seems to be the reason behind their high unemployment rates in many countries. Employers usually look for experienced workers who possess practical skills and at least a college degree. Hence, school graduates with no prior experience are often placed at the bottom of the shortlist. For instance, due to unemployment, many university graduates apply for simple clerical jobs, which makes the scenario for school-leavers even more baffling.

Secondly, limited job prospect is another big problem for them. Even the school-leavers are lucky enough to secure a job, they have to work long hours with low wages. They often do not have sufficient time and money to pursue higher academic qualifications needed for career progression. Consequently, they are being trapped in lower positions with limited social mobility.
Thirdly, due to the advancement in technology, some industries replaced human labours with robots and machines which causes humans to struggle more as there will only be a certain amount of vacancies available for them. However, being jobless is not the only crisis that the teenagers face in this modern world. In addition, some people are being discriminated as they came from the BAME society( black, asian and minority ethnicity). This is one of the major issue faced by the BAME communities at their workplace
----------------------------------------------
Adolescents: thanh thiếu niên

Obstacle = difficulty = complication = problem

Acute = gay gắt

Skepticism: sự hoài nghi

clerical jobs: công việc văn thư

baffling: thất vọng

scenario: viễn cảnh

career progression: sự tiến triển trong sự nghiệp

minority ethnicity: dân tốc thiểu số
political instability: bất ổn chính trị
social unrest: bất ổn xã hội
sexual and racial discrimination: phân biệt giới tính và chủng tộc

4 Reasons Why Traveling Abroad/Studying Abroad is Important for Young People

When you are young you are still finding yourself and preparing for your school and career. The skills and experience you gain from traveling abroad can give you life-long personal benefits as well as a leg up in the professional world.
1. You’ll Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

As young people most of us have a pretty established comfort zone. At home with mom and dad, in a community that has known you for probably a good part of your life. You have your established, friends, activities, hangouts and possibly jobs. We become comfortable in these daily roles and the idea of breaking out them can be scary and uncomfortable.

The problem is, you learn the most in uncomfortable, unfamiliar situations. In our daily routines, you know how to act and respond to people and your surroundings. Being in a new place, with different people, who hold different values and go about life differently (or not so differently you may find) strips all that familiarity away.

It can be scary, but once you figure out that you can connect with people despite differences, and you can navigate foreign environments, you become a smarter, more competent individual. Embrace the discomfort. Search for it, because it is helping you grow.
2. It will make you a more interesting person

There is nothing more compelling than having a conversation with someone who has something to say. You will not be a blank canvas anymore; your travels will be part of your story as a person.

Traveling creates an exciting story in your life that is worthy of telling to all your friends. Not only your travel conversations can be of great interest, but they can also be eye-openers to other people.

At that point, you become an inspiration to those who would also like to explore the world.

3. You’ll learn to develop your independence and how to be responsible

Traveling is one of the best ways to learn how to be independent.

When you travel, everything relies on you. Even if you travel on an organized trip, there is a certain degree of organizational skills, responsibility, and independence that you have to exert.

When traveling independently, you are responsible for your plane tickets, accommodations, transportation, passport, and money –it’s like a crash course of life.
4. You won’t resent it later in life

There is nothing worse than reaching a later stage in life and regretting not doing something when you were young. Well, traveling is one of those.

There are many things to experience in this world, so why wait till later in life to enjoy them? There is no reason to spend your active young years just working. As they say, don’t live to work… work to live.

I think a lot of young people put off traveling because they want to be responsible, work hard, get married, have kids, and build up a life. However, I think it’s a mistake to put off traveling in exchange for the belief that you can do it when you retire and have more time. If something happens and you don’t live to see my forties, fifties, or sixties, you will have no regrets.
--------------------------------------

put off = delay

strip: (loại bỏ) remove all coverings from.

Compelling = thuyết phục

eye-openers: mở mang tầm mắt

resent: tức giận, oán hận

1. Color schemes are used to increase hunger.
As a way to brand their companies to exhibit colors that will attract attention as well as stimulation, the color scheme of yellow and red are used to stimulate hunger, as proven by psychology. Plus, yellow is also used to exhibit happiness and friendliness.
2. America isn't the top country for fast food eating.
Hong Kong is! Though the United States has a pretty bad rap for their poor choices in food, Hong Kong is the place that eats the most fast food.

As one of the most interesting facts about fast food, this might make Americans feel better, but it really shouldn't. They come in a close second to Hong Kong, and American's food choices are equally as poor.

The obesity rate for American is over 38 percent, and something that the country desperately needs to improve. McDonald's, Subway, Wendy's, and Pizza Hut are certainly not helping our path toward healthier lifestyles.

3. Just living near a fast food restaurant increases your chances of weight gain.

Next on our list of the most interesting facts about fast food is a bit disheartening. Simply living within five to ten miles of a fast food chain restaurant will increase your risk of weight gain, even in children.

Fast food restaurants are extremely successful due to their convenience. McDonald's opens a new restaurant within every 15 hours.

So, it's very likely that you live five miles from one of these restaurants, and it's even more popular for pregnant women or families to gain weight due to the convenience of the quick and easy meals, typically purchased on the weekends.

4.When ordering a medium, you're really ordering a large.

Fast food restaurants have caught on to the fact that their customers will persistently order the size medium. With this in mind, they altered their sizes. This is typically seen in fountain drink sizing. Their size medium would typically be a size large, but because of the consistent medium ordering, they have changed it.

So if you're looking for a size large, order a medium. If you're looking for a medium, order a small. Trust us, you really don't need to waste your money.
-------------------------------
New words:
color scheme: bảng màu
obesity: béo phì

disheartening: làm nhụt chí
pregnant woman: phụ nữ mang bầu

1.When Two Lovers Gaze At Each Others’ Eyes, Their Heart Rates Synchronize
Some extraordinary research has found that couples who are in love and bond in a romantic relationship synchronize their heart rates after gazing into each others’ eyes for three minutes.
2. Cuddling Releases Natural Painkillers
Oxytocin, the so-called love or cuddle hormone, is produced during an embrace or cuddle. The hormone appears in the brain, ovaries and testicles and is thought to be involved in the bonding process. Research has found that a dose of oxytocin decreases headaches significantly, and for some it even makes the pain go away completely after 4 hours. It’s definitely worth trying hug and cuddle medicine before jumping to chemicals and pills.
3.Even Looking At A Picture Of A Loved One Relieves The Pain
Even though it was long known that the presence of a significant other has a lot to do with patients’ improvement, it has been proved that the same goes for even a picture of the beloved. The experiment showed that when experiencing pain, study participants exposed to pictures of their beloved and to distracting word games had their pain reduced far more than those exposed to the same distracting word games and pictures of acquaintances.
4.Looking Into Each Others’ Eyes Can Make Strangers Fall In Love

The eyes are the mirrors of our souls, as they say, so there’s probably no surprise that simply looking into each others’ eyes can make us fall for each other, even if we don’t know jack about each other. It has been proven that when someone is gazing at you, the person’s body produces a chemical called phenylethylamine, which is associated with the fight-or-flight response. So if you decide to continue looking at each other, you’re asking for Cupid’s arrow.
----------------------------------
Synchronize: đồng bộ

Gaze at: nhìn chằm chằm

cuddle  = embrace

Ovary: buồng trứng

Testicle: tinh hoàn

patients’ improvement: sự tốt hơn, cair thiện của bênh nhân

don’t know jack about: don't know anything

fight-or-flight response: phan ứng chiến hay chạy

Why Starch Is an Essential Need for our body?

1. It keeps your heart healthy
A healthy heart is a healthy body” When processes in the body are not sudden or spasmodic, it is of great help to your heart. A sudden increase in glucose levels or the other way round is dangerous for your heart. Your heart is at its best in a balanced system.

Foods classified as resistant starch can help you to lower cholesterol levels (very bad), prevent clogging muscles, and constricting arteries that affect the flow of nutrients and blood to the heart.

2. Improves ‘efficiency’ of food breakdown and absorption
Our stomach contains very strong acids (one that could melt a nail); these acids help to digest the proteins, vegetables, and all that we eat. The fermentation of starch remnants in the venter produces some smaller-chain fatty acids, which supplements the acids in our stomach.
3. Starch expels fat
Eating foods that are rich in starch will help you to reduce your body fat significantly; most of the Butyrate compounds that the starch produce remains in the colon and strengthens the gut functions. It will inhibit the liver from releasing the reserve glucose into the bloodstream (for energy); your digestive system will have no option but to break down/act on fats in the body for the energy it needs.

----------------------
New words:

Starch: tinh bột

Expel: đào thải

Colon: Đại tràng

Fermentation: quá trình lên men

Remnant: phần còn lại

Spasmodic: co thắt

Starch: tinh bột

Expel: đào thải

Colon: Đại tràng

Fermentation: quá trình lên men

Remnant: phần còn lại

Spasmodic: co thắt

5 Fascinating Facts About the Psychology of Color

1. There’s a reason you never see yellow in an airplane
Take a good long look at the above block of yellow. Does it make you feel dizzy after a moment? Maybe even a little nauseated? If so, you’re in good company. A number of studies have shown that the color yellow can cause dizziness and nausea. For this reason, it’s often used sparingly (or very strategically) by those in advertising, and is almost never used in the interiors of various forms of transportation — most notably, airplanes.
2. You’re more likely to forget something when it’s in black and white.
Psychologists have found a number of connections between color and memory. As it turns out, people have more trouble remembering facts presented in black and white than they do facts presented in color. For example, lecture notes written in colored pen are more helpful than notes written in black ink, while a scene from a black-and-white film is harder to remember than a scene from a film in color. The reason for this seems to be that color — of which black and white technically are not included — has a stronger affect on the senses necessary to form a memory.
3. 62-90% of a first impression is due to colors.
When people meet for the first time, the vast majority of their first impressions are made up of color recognition. Studies suggest that those who consistently wear neutral colors or black make fewer positive first impressions, but those who wear brighter colors are more likely to form friendly bonds. More specifically, wearing red (for women) or blue (for men) on a first date could lead to stronger feelings and a definite second date, while those who wear black for a job interview are more likely to be hired.
4. Blue is the world’s favorite color.
Despite the many differences of cultures and people around the world, there is at least one thing we all have in common: the color blue. Studies done around the world reveal that a whopping 40% of people consider blue to be their favorite color. Second place goes to purple, though that received only 14%, and last place goes to black.

5.Different colors evoke different emotions.
Think about when you see the big red letters on a “Clearance” sign, or McDonald’s unmistakable red M. How about the classic red script of Coca-Cola? Are you beginning to feel thirsty or in need of an excellent deal? If so, you aren’t the only one. Many companies — including Colgate, Nintendo, Virgin, and KFC, to name but a few — use red to entice customers because red has been scientifically proven to create a feeling of urgency. It’s an emotional color.

Similarly, the color blue evokes feelings of tranquility and trust. That’s why so many financial companies (Visa, PayPal), technology companies (IBM, Facebook, Twitter), car companies (Ford), and healthcare companies (Oral-B) use blue in their logos and advertising. Other colors that are often used for their ability to evoke certain emotions include green (nature and growth, think Whole Foods or Animal Planet), orange (confidence and enthusiasm, think Harley Davidson or Hooters), black (power and elegance as used by Jaguar, Chanel, and Mont Blanc), white (perfection, think Apple or Ralph Lauren), purple (wealth and royalty, like Crown Royal or Cadbury), and yellow (intellect and energy, think National Geographic or DHL).
------------------------
New words:

Dizzy: chóng mặt

Nauseate : buồn ói

Sparingly: tiết kiệm

Interior: nội thất

Psyche (n) tinh thần

Whopping: to lớn khác thường

a whopping lie: điều nói dối k ngượng mồm

Tranquility: sự yên bình

By fourth and third centuries BC, version of pasta existed in many cultures. Indian called it sevika, or thread; the French, noulles; German, Nudeln and the English, noodles.
4
Guangzhou in China considered to be culinary mecca of China. When the first Arab merchants arrived in the fourth century to serve as intermediaries between the Chinese and Greek, they established a steady commerce between China, India, Africa and Europe.
It was via this route that the noodle is said to have found its way from China, through the Middle East to Europe.
300
The Chinese form whole grain paste into various noodle-like products.
500-600
Amidst numerous cultural exchanges, China shares Buddhism and the art of noodle-making with Japan. Buckwheat noodles become a staple of the Japanese tea ceremony.
1138
Arab geographer, Idrisi, travels to Sicily and writes about “triyah,” a food resembling threads and produced in large quantities.
1200
Explorer Marco Polo introduced pasta to Italy after encountering it at the court of Kublai Khan in China in 1295. It is believed that noodles originated from China as early as 5000 BC, then spread to other Asian countries.
Today, about 40% of the flour consumed in Asia is for Noodle manufacture. In recent years, noodles have also become very popular outside Asia and this popularity is likely to increase.
------------------

culinary mecca: thánh địa ẩm thực

intermediary: trung gian

a steady commerce: nền thương mại ổn định

grain: ngũ cốc nguyên hạt

Buddhism: Phật giáo

Buckwheat noodles: mì lúa mạch

Staple: món ăn chính

Tea ceremony: trà đạo

Thread: sợi chỉ

the court of Kublai Khan: Triều đình của Hốt Tất Liệt

precursor: tiền thân, người đi trước

sow: gieo hạt

resembling: giống

4 Traits Babies Inherit From Their Father

Many of us think everything is 50/50, with each parent giving an equal amount of physical traits and genetic traits to their child. But, that's not the way things work. The truth is things are a bit unfairly swayed to the dad’s side. You are 60% more likely to have traits that are “active” from your dad simply because nature has a natural preference to express those genes. That's what it means to have strong genes.

1. Dimples
If you want your baby to have dad’s sweet smile, you’re in luck! Cheek dimples are a dominant trait and more commonly passed down on the father’s side. Most parents can’t get enough of their baby’s adorable dimples, so if dad has that facial feature, you’ll both have something to smile about!
2. Certain Health Conditions
While children can't blame every health condition on their father, coronary heart disease is one health condition that is inherited from dad. If a father suffers from heart disease, their child can develop a similar condition. Infertility is also something that can be linked back to a father's DNA.
3. Mental Disorders and Mental Health
If a man becomes a father later in life, there is less quality sperm. This is one of the reasons why older fathers can pass on mutant genes to their children which can lead to mental illnesses or mental health issues. This means children can develop conditions such as hyperactivity or bipolar disorder. Children born to parents over 45 can also be more likely to have learning difficulties and perhaps suicidal tendencies.
4. Height
Physical appearance as a whole is heavily biased towards the father's genes and not the mom's genes.

There are at least 700 genetic variations that are responsible for determining height. While this trait comes from both mom and dad's genes, there is evidence to show that a dad's genes play a greater role in the height department.

---------------------------
New words:
- Trait: đặc điểm
- Dimple: má lúm đồng tiền
- Coronary: động mạch hình vành

- Coronary heart disease: bệnh động mạch vành

- Infertility: vô sinh
- Bipolar disorder: rối loạn lưỡng cực
- Hyperactivity disorder: rối loạn tăng động giảm chú ý
- Tendency: khuynh hướng

1. Poor sleep hygiene
Sleep hygiene refers to the healthy habits that help you get appropriate sleep. The lack of a bedtime routine, a poor sleep environment, and excessive use of electronics can negatively impact your overall sleep.

Other lifestyle habits also contribute to poor sleep hygiene. For example, late use of caffeine or alcohol can make falling asleep or staying asleep more difficult. Additionally, revenge bedtime procrastination involves staying up late only to enjoy personal time, despite knowing it will negatively impact you the following day.
2. Depression, Anxiety, or Stress
Depression, anxiety, and stress can all impact your sleep habits. Depression can cause both early waking and oversleeping. Untreated stress and anxiety can put you at risk for sleep deprivation or deficiency, causing you to sleep later or experience excessive daytime sleepiness.

These mental health disorders can contribute to other sleep disorders. Additionally, a lack of sleep can affect your mood and lead to depression and anxiety.

3. Sleep debt
When you regularly lose sleep, that loss adds up to a total of sleep debt. If you lose an hour of sleep each night, you have a sleep debt of seven hours at the end of the week. You might try to make up the sleep debt with naps or sleeping in on the weekend, but these habits can disrupt your sleep schedule. As a result, you may end up sleeping in later than you intend to during the week.
-------------------
New words:
Hygiene: vệ sinh
Excessive: quá mức
Sleep deprivation: sự thiếu ngủ

Four life hacks for healthy skin

1. Eat a healthful diet
There is a multibillion-dollar industry dedicated to products that keep your skin looking its best, and which claim to fight signs of aging. But moisturizers only go skin deep, and aging develops at a deeper, cellular level.

What you eat is as important as the products that you put on your skin. Your diet could improve your skin health from the inside out, so a clear complexion begins with eating a healthful diet.
There are some foods that have been acknowledged by research as being skin-healthy: mangoes, tomatoes, olive oil, green tea, kale, soy,....
But never rely on foods to protect you from the sun. To protect yourself from sun exposure, always use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, seek shade between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear clothing that covers your skin and a wide-brimmed hat.

2. Keep stress in check
Have you ever noticed that right before an important event, an unsightly pimple appears on your face? Well, scientists have identified some links between stress levels and skin problems.
The researchers suspect that stress increases the quantity of sebum, which is the oily substance that blocks pores. This, in turn, leads to greater acne severity.
Reducing your stress levels may lead to clearer skin. If you think that stress is having an impact on your skin, try stress reduction techniques such as tai chi, yoga, or meditation.
3. Get your beauty sleep

Getting your beauty sleep will banish those dark circles around your eyes and improve your skin tone, and, best of all, it is free.
The National Sleep Foundation recommend that adults sleep for between 7 and 9 hours every day. Sleeping for under that amount of time could be detrimental to your health — and your skin, in particular.
Chronic sleep deprivation is known to be linked with obesity, immune deficiency, diabetes, and cancer, but research has shown that sleep quality may also have a significant impact on skin function and aging.

People classed as poor sleepers had increased signs of premature skin aging and a decreased ability for their skin to repair itself at night from environmental stressors such as sun exposure.
During deep sleep, your body enters repair mode and regenerates skin, muscles, and blood and brain cells. Without adequate sleep, your body is unable to produce new collagen. Collagen prevents your skin from sagging.
Try to get an early night and sleep for a full 7 hours to look your best.
Keeping your skin healthy and young does not necessarily mean breaking the bank by purchasing expensive creams and lotions; by following these simple steps, you can make dull and lifeless skin glow.
4. Keep moisture in the skin
Skin moisturizers keep the top layer of skin cells hydrated and seal in moisture. Moisturizers often contain humectants to attract moisture, occlusive agents to retain moisture in the skin, and emollients to smooth the spaces between skin cells.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends the following ways to keep moisture in and prevent dry, red, and itchy skin:

Take one 5- to 10-minute shower or bath per day. Excessive washing can strip away the oily layer of the skin and dry it out.

Use warm water instead of hot water.

Pat skin gently dry with a towel.

Avoid getting too close to fireplaces and other heat sources that can dry out skin.

Switch on a humidifier in the winter to replenish moisture in the skin’s top layer.

---------------------------------
New words:
complexion: nước da
pimple: mụn nhọt
replenish: cấp thêm
pat: vỗ nhẹ
sebum: bã nhờn
pore: lỗ chân lông
itchy: ngứa
severity: khắc nghiệt, nghiêm trọng
chronic: thường xuyên
immune deficiency: giảm sức đề kháng
sag: lún xuống
humectant: chất làm ẩm
emollient: thuốc làm ẩm

1. Memory activities

Memory activities can help to improve not only memory, but also reasoning and language skills. In fact, memory games have been used in research studies to explore how memory relates to language and object knowledge.

Reasoning and language are both used as intelligence measures, meaning that memory activities can continue to develop intelligence.

Activities that involve memory training include:

jigsaw puzzles

crossword puzzles

concentration card game, or card matching

sudoku

2. New languages
Would you be surprised to know that more than half of the world’s population is bilingual? It should come as no surprise that learning multiple languages is beneficial to the human brain — and the earlier, the better.

A recent study investigated the relationship between early language learning and IQ. The results indicated that language learning through talk and interaction from 18 to 24 months was most beneficial for cognitive outcomes later in life.
3. Frequent reading

There’s no denying how beneficial books are in human cognitive development. In fact, the benefits on development are even more pronounced when books become part of parental bonding activities.

In one recent study, researchers discovered that when parents read aloud to their children, the child had greater language and cognitive development skills.

4. Musical instruments
You don’t have to become the next famous musician to benefit from learning a musical instrument. One study found that musicians have better working memory than non-musicians.

Given the important role memory plays in intelligence, it may benefit your IQ to finally pick up that musical instrument you’ve always wanted to learn.
Activities that won’t boost your IQ

Although there are quite a few activities you can enjoy each day that may help raise your IQ score, the following myths aren’t included in those suggestions:

taking multivitamins

listening to music

training for an IQ test

Generally, these kinds of activities do very little to help develop the skills necessary to improve your intelligence. To truly improve your IQ score, you should focus on activities that teach your brain skills related to fluid and crystallized intelligence.

----------------------------------
New words:
Reasoning: khả năng lí luận
crystallized: kết tinh
fluid: chất lỏng

5 interesting facts about Thai language

Lying in the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand has both geographic and economic advantages that make it one of the most dynamic economy in the region. With the population of more than 69 million people, Thailand is a promising market for foreign investors. However, to be successful in this country, you need to understand its language. Here are the facts about Thai language that will give you insights into the unique culture of Thailand.

Thai language is not only spoken in Thailand

Thai is the official and national language of Thailand. It is spoken by more than 69 million Thai people in the country. Even though Thai and Laotian are written with slightly different script, they are linguistically related. Both of them belong to the Tai language family, thus, they share a large number of similar words. That is the reason why Thai music and TV programs are widely received and understood in Laos. Many Laotian people can also speak and read Thai language.

Outside Thailand, there is a large community of Thai speakers in Los Angeles and California with more than 80,000 Thai immigrants. There is even a Thai town in Los Angeles with many Thai sweet shops, bookstores, restaurants, markets and newspaper offices.

Learning Thai is easier than you think

Thai language greatly differs from most western languages. It is a context tonal language with five tones, 44 consonants and 36 vowels. Thus, remembering Thai words and their use in different circumstances can be a massive task for foreign learners.

However, the grammar of Thai language is very easy. There are no conjugations, declensions or inflections. Thai words do not change with different gender, number or tense. The speakers will add expressions of time such as yesterday, tomorrow, already to indicate tense. Also, there are no articles in Thai language, the complicated use of “a”, “an” or “the” in English is omitted in Thai. Therefore, the sentences are very simple.

Thai borrows many words from English

Many Thai words, especially the terms related to science and technology, are borrowed from English. They are adapted to the Thai sound system so that Thai people can use them easily. There are also borrowed words with unchanged spelling like format, movie, etc.

Learning Thai will help you with other languages

Since Thai language is closely related to Lao, learning Thai can open the door to studying Lao language. Besides Lao, Cambodian is also the language that you will find easier to learn. Due to close contact between Thai and Cambodia for centuries, there are certain similarities in the languages of the two countries.

Body language is important in Thai conversation

In conversation with Thai people, body language is an important factor. Thai people consider the head to be sacred and the feet to be dirty. To show respect to senior people in a conversation or when passing by, Thais always try to lower their head. Western habit of resting a foot on the desk is offensive to Thais. Therefore, you should be careful with your gestures when you are in Thailand.

Thai language represents Thai culture and people. If you chose Thailand to be the next destination of your international business, one of the most important things to do is to adapt your documents, websites or marketing campaigns to Thai language.
------------------------
Linguistically: về mặt ngôn ngữ

Tonal: âm sắc

Consonants: phụ âm

Vowels: nguyên âm

Circumstances: trường hợp

Conjugations: sự liên hợp

Declensions: sự phân chia

Inflections: sự biến đổi

Sacred: linh thiêng

Offensive: phản cảm

1. Drink a glass after every bathroom break.

Start a habit by linking drinking water with one of your most common daily activities—going to the bathroom. Getting up from your desk for a bathroom break? Stop by the kitchen to chug a glass of water. It's just another way to build the habit into your daily routine. You'll already be getting up, which means it's a perfect time to stop by the water cooler or the faucet to fill up your bottle or glass. And it will set up a great cycle: The more water you drink, the more you'll have to go to the bathroom, which means the more water you will drink, and so on. Basically, it's the good kind of self-fulfilling prophecy.

2. Sip before every meal.

If you are making dinner at home, sip while you cook and prep. If you're out at a restaurant, ask for water when the server comes around to take drink orders. If you're waiting for your lunch to heat up or your toast to pop, drink water while doing it. Even if you're putting together a snack, drink that water. It's just a simple rule that will help you drink more water. Once you establish these little "rules," you'll find that you're doing it almost automatically without having to think about it or put much effort into it at all.

3. Dilute sugary drinks with water and ice.

If you're drinking something extra sweet like juice, lemonade, or iced tea, water down your beverage by adding ice or even diluting a cup with some water. You’ll still get the sweetness you’re craving and have some extra water at the same time. If you're not looking forward to having a less sweet version of the thing you're drinking, fair enough, and this tip might not be for you. But every now and again I order a beverage I expect to be a little sweet and discover that it's mouth-puckeringly sweet. In those cases, I don't mind adding extra ice or some water.

4. Stick to a one-to-one rule when drinking alcohol.

You’ve probably heard the drinking rule: for every cocktail you drink, have one glass of water. This is a great strategy to stay hydrated while imbibing, and while some people use it in the hopes that their hangover might be a little less brutal the next day if they aren't so dehydrated, it's also a winning strategy for anyone who needs those little rules and triggers to get them to keep doing that thing they mean to keep doing but sometimes forget to (or find a way to avoid).
------------------------------------
chug a glass of water: uống 1 cốc nước

faucet: vòi nước

self-fulfilling: tự hoàn thành

Dilute: pha loãng

sugary drinks: đồ uống có đường

mouth-puckeringly sweet: ngọt đến lạ miệng

sparkling: nước có ga

imbibe: hấp thụ

hangover: cảm giác nôn nao

rules and triggers: quy tắc và nguyên tắc

1. The Anchoring Effect

People feel it much easier to evaluate something if they have the original price (even if it's wrong) as a kind of anchor. It's often used by stores. For example, you wouldn't buy a blouse for $300 in your right mind. But if you see it originally cost $1,000, you'll think it's a sin to miss such a great deal, although the initial price might be invented.

2. Deflection to the Result

We often judge the correctness of a decision by the final result, not by the actions taken to achieve it. This effect is often used by those ads which concentrate us only on the final result (for example, on buying). So if now you're using a brand-new iPhone, you cannot claim that the decision to spend all your money on it was right.

3. The Paradox of Choice

The paradox of choice says that the more choices there are, the less the possibility we'll be happy with our final choice. Remember: sometimes you buy something and then regret it because you could have bought it on sale, or another model, or... Even if the final decision is the best, we can stay unhappy because the choice was too big.
4. Clustering Illusion
This illusion is characterized by the tendency to see a certain system in random coincidences. This especially applies to gamblers and lovers of fate signs. Both of them can wrongly interpret events. Don't wind yourself up, people.

5. Pratfall Effect

Imagine a couple walking down the street, and one of them suddenly hits a pole. It's unlikely the other one will think "What an idiot!" On the contrary, the first one will seem even more sweet. It's because perfection is repulsive, and mistakes are attractive - they make us more human. This is why you shouldn't get too upset having stumbled in front of a person you like.
------------------------
New words:

Pratfall: sai lầm nhục nhã

Repulsive: đáng ghét

Anchor: mỏ neo

Sin: tội ác

Paradox: nghịch lí

Cluster: phân cụm

Gambler: kẻ đánh bạc, đầu cơ

wind sb up: trick someone with lies

1. The Kuleshov Effect

The effect when a viewer, after seeing two unrelated frames, unconsciously makes up a logical connection for them is called the Kuleshov effect. This effect is successfully used not only among cinematographers but also among marketers, instilling in you certain associations with a certain product or character.
2. "Body Negative"

"Body negative" is a condition where a person thinks they're ugly, and this is why their personal life is a fail. And their whole life is a fail. Most often such people are attractive, and the problem is more about self-esteem than real flaws.

3. Survivorship Bias
Most often we judge a situation only by successful people ("survivors"), and this is why we know just one side of it. For example, we envy a businessman who got rich selling Bengal lights, though we simply don't know how many businessmen failed with them. Look at things from different angles.

4. Hard-to-Reach Effect

Roughly speaking, this is the phenomenon telling that the hard-to-reach is always more desirable. Even if we look at it from a human level: closed, high-status, "no-one-knows-what's-on-their-mind" people always seem a more interesting object to get acquainted with.

5. The Fear of Beauty
Did you notice that ordinary people are less likely to sit down next to beautiful people (for example, on public transport)? They do it only if there are no other seats left. The fact is that some people feel excessive tension next to beautiful people: excitement, double control of one's own actions, the desire to save face, fear of comparison, fear of being caught in frequent glances. Such stress doesn't arise next to an average person.

----------------------
New words:

instill: truyền dẫn

pensiveness: vẻ trầm ngâm

Cinematographer: nhà điện ảnh

Association: sự liên tưởng, kết hợp

Roughly speaking : nói đại khái
