So I decided to do the one day without my cell phone challenge. I did it yesterday because my schedule was full of activities and i had planned to go out with my friends so i thought that it would be easier to beat. To be honest at first it seemed kind a impossible but as the day passed I wasn't feeling bored without my phone. I think that the lesson this challenge taught me is that you can also have fun without using your phone. After completing this without any difficulty, I could also try one week without my cell phone, but that' s a challenge for another day.

I am sending you this message to share my experience with an experiment that I participated in last week in which I wasn't able to use my cell phone for a whole day.

The main plan I had in mind was to stay asleep for as long as possible so that the day ended faster, however, this didn't work out since my mum woke me up at 11 o'clock. When I got up I did the usual things such as brushing my teeth and eating breakfast. After that, I did a quick workout with a few push-ups and pull-ups and was ready to go. At this point, I realized how hard the experiment would be because I had to find out what to do for the rest of the day. So, the only thing that crossed my mind was to take my dog "Hera" for a walk. After half an hour I got back home and watched some TV with my mum until the food was ready. Shortly after, I ate lunch and went straight back to my room to take a quick nap since I was full. When I got up at 5 o'clock, I studied for about 3 hours and after I was done the hardest part of the day was over. Now all I had to do was take a long shower and after that eat dinner. Finally, I listened to some music and then saw a movie with my family until I got sleepy enough to go back to bed. With that, the day had come to an end. Keep in mind that everything happened on a Sunday, so I had no school in the morning, and because I live a little outside of Aigio there was really nothing to do besides staying home, that is why I took this as more of a challenge rather than an experiment.

During the weekend, in a day without the constant digital tether of a mobile phone, I find myself immersed in a world of genuine connections and unfiltered experiences. The liberation from notifications and screens creates a canvas for a day filled with authentic moments and joyous activities.

The morning kicks off with a refreshing game of billiards. The clinking of balls and the strategic maneuvers on the green felt engage my mind in a way that no app or message ever could. There's a tangible sense of team spirit as friends gather around the billiards table, sharing laughter and friendly banter.

Following the billiards session, a leisurely walk beckons. The crisp air and the rustling leaves form a serene backdrop as we stroll through the park and the central square. Unhindered by the constant urge to check messages, our conversations flow naturally, and the beauty of the surroundings becomes more pronounced.

Next on the agenda is a spirited game of football. The physical activity not only invigorates the body but also fosters a sense of teamwork and competition. Without the interruption of phone notifications, the focus is solely on the exhilaration of the game and the bonds forged on the field.

As the day progresses, we gather to watch a sports event on TV. The absence of distractions allows us to fully appreciate the athleticism and skill on display. The cheers and groans are shared collectively, creating a shared experience that transcends the virtual world.

Evening brings the delight of dining out with friends. Without the constant checking of phones, conversations deepen, and the enjoyment of good food is elevated. Laughter resonates, and the simple act of savoring a meal becomes a celebration.

To cap off this technology-free day, a refreshing run under the moonlit sky offers solitude and introspection. The rhythmic pounding of feet on the pavement provides a meditative space, allowing thoughts to flow freely without the interruption of notifications.

In the absence of a mobile phone, each activity becomes a vibrant brushstroke on the canvas of a day well-spent. The joy derived from genuine connections, physical activities, and unfiltered experiences is a testament to the richness of life beyond the digital screen

So last week I challenged my self in a way with taking away my phone from myself. It started normally, I went to school , had fun with my peers, talked with my friends, everything but lessons as usual. The real difference I experienced was when i got back to my house. I couldn't spend time on my phone to pass time. It got really boring, so i decided to go study. When I was done it was still 5 so I decided to go out and see if I found anyone. I went to Psilalonia square where I luckily found my friends and we hanged out. We talked about our hobbies and our interests to pass time. At about 11 we left and i went home where I went to sleep.

ONE DAY WITHOUT MY PHONE: DO I HAVE AN ADDICTION? by Foteini A. from B3

Well today I spent the day taking the challenge of not using the phone for one day and here is my experience. So every morning I wake to the sound of my phone’s alarm clock. Today, I did not… my mother woke me up and to tell you the truth it was way better than my phone. So back to what I was saying I got up and then I went for my every-Saturday-morning run. Not having my phone with me was kind of hard… I could not track my steps or miles that I ran and most importantly the calories I burnt ;) Noon came fast and I was not really annoyed that I didn’t have my phone with me, BUT then I wanted to relax with some videos. “Now what? “ I thought. The key to win this challenge is to keep your mind always busy with something so… I tried to read a book. At first it was hard to concentrate but at last I got into the spirit of the book and spent 4 hours reading. After taking a quick 2 hour nap I thought that it was time to do something with my friends… So I got ready and as I could not use my phone I ran into my friend's house to tell her face to face that I wanted to go out. She was surprised when I got there and when I explained myself she laughed and she told me that she was in. So I waited in her house till she got ready. At the walk we had some difficulties not using our phones but we managed to get over it and do something productive. This productive thing was shopping… We literally tried 10 dozens of clothes! It was really fun. The day ends with me waiting for the clock to hit 12 so that I can write about my experience.

In conclusion it was not that hard to spend the day without my phone…it was fun and quite entertaining. It was a memorable day for me and I would definitely do it again. I highly recommend it. Try it and remember my words…KEEP YOURSELF ENTERTAINED OR ELSE… YOU’LL LOSE.

Have fun,

Foteini

Although I was not happy to do so, I decided to take part in this experiment as well and I must admit that the results persuaded me to downsize my phone usage on my daily life. At the beginning of the experiment my routine felt a bit different... I looked around the house and found a new task to do... some other chore which I never paid attention to since I was usually scrolling on instagram every morning. What is more, I was able to organise my schoolwork more effectively and I stayed consistent while studying since there was nothing to distract me. As a result, I had so much more free time to focus on other activities.

The only problem I faced was getting hold of my friends since we usually communicate via social media. I must also admit that this experiment might be a bit challenging for the Spotify addicts and it made me realise how dependent I was on music.

Taking everything into consideration, I strongly advise everyone to try it and they will notice the effects of excessive mobile use almost immediately.

Taking inspiration from the "day without my cell phone" challenge, I decided to embark on a venture of my own. I wanted to see if I could refrain from using popular social media apps such as Instagram, TikTok, Discord, and YouTube for an entire weekend. Throughout my experience, I documented my progress and discovered some unforeseen results.

At first, it was challenging to refrain from communicating with my friends and watching videos that I enjoy. However, I was taken aback by how effortless it was to carry on with my daily routine without the influence of social media. I was able to alleviate the pressure that comes with academic responsibilities, as I didn't waste any valuable time on social media. By being productive and consistent with my studies, I was able to complete my assignments early, which gave me an abundance of time to pursue my passions and cherish moments with my loved ones.

Throughout this weekend, I gained a newfound appreciation for being more present and savoring the time I have. By avoiding social media, I was able to recognize the amount of time I had been spending aimlessly scrolling through feeds. Instead, I relished in spending meaningful time with those closest to me and participating in activities that brought me happiness. In the end, it was an empowering experience that allowed me to reassess my values and cherish the little moments in life.

Even though I knew it would be challenging, I decided to participate in this activity. I have to admit that it was difficult but I made it.

To begin with, I woke up in the morning and I felt strange when I didn’t touch my phone at all and watch some videos on tik tok or respond to my messages as I usually do. Then I decided to go jogging in my neighborhood while listening to music on my MP3 like I did in the quarantine in 2020.After that, I returned home and completed my studies for the lesson I had at noon.

Fortunately, it was Saturday and I wasn’t much time at home. When I finished my lesson, I called my friends using the landline phone to decide what we would do in the evening and I felt like I was back in elementary school.

Then, I got ready for my night out and left the house after I informed my parents about the hour that they would pick me up. The rest of the day passed like every other Saturday night.

This challenge was difficult but I noticed that I was more productive and had more energy than the days I use my self-phone. I clearly won’t do it again though.

The cell phone has completely changed the way our world lives. It’s necessity for today’s. About a week ago I wondered to myself what would one day be like without my cell phone. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself to not use my cell phone at all one day. The morning of that day, I considered that I had to wake up to a traditional alarm clock. After I got out of bed, I was looking for my cell phone to see my messages from my social media platforms, facebook and instagram but then I realise that I don’t have my phone. Then I thought it would be a good idea to go for a run outside. Since I use my phone for music I had to run without listening to songs. I felt like I had no motivation to run and I cut my run short. The rest of the afternoon I was doing my homework but I kept on thinking what where the things I was missing on facebook and instagram or important things my friends would send in text. I suddenly realised I had to do something so I decided to watch a film. My mother took me to the cinema and told me in about two hours I will be here to take you. The film finished and my mother didn’t come to pick me up. If I would have my cell phone I could call her. After five minutes my mother came. The rest of the night I found it difficult not to call or text my friends so I finished the night off finishing last minute homework. I enjoyed this experiment but most importantly it opened my eyes to see how dependent our society truly is on cell phones.

So I decided to challenge myself by letting my cell phone aside for a day. At the beginning, everything was like my normal everyday routine. I woke up early, ate my breakfast, got ready and went to school. It was quite boring I have to say but I had my friends with me, each one of them makes everything better. When school ended, I took the bus and returned home. I ate my lunch and then went to study with my little brother while we were listening to music from a CD-player. It reminded me of the time when I was in primary school… In the afternoon I had boxing practice and then math class. The boxing was excellent but maths at night… a little boring and everyone was in a sleepy mood. Although it wasn’t that bad, we had fun with the other peers. When the lesson ended and got back home, I immediately went for a hot shower only for me to relax. Then, we sat all together on the couch and watched a movie. My brother and my dad fell asleep pretty fast, so only me and my mother watched the hole movie. After that, she went to sleep too and I went to my room and read a book. I just fell asleep on the book!

And that was my day without a mobile phone. It wasn’t easy at all but I realized that there’s so many things to do to spend your free time creatively and productively rather than sitting in front of a screen and watching videos. From that time, I started using my phone less.

Thank you for reading my experience!
