Troy is very compassionate about his family, his actions may come off as cruel, but there's also reasoning behind his words. 
He is responsible in his duty for his family as a provider.  
He's also compassionate for baseball. At any given moment, Troy will relate a situation to a baseball rule ect.

Not only did Troy sing this song often, but there are parts of this song that relates to Troy.
In the song it tells us about his dog Blue, who's a stubborn dog how doesn't listen often.
