Troy was the husband of Rose Maxson, and father of Cory Maxson. Troy's character is a stubborn man, whose presents is admired by many people.
Troy would be considered the protagonist of Fences.
Though in the movie he has made mistakes, he owned up to them and his goal was to create a strong family.

One of Troy's character traits would have to be compassion.
"A man is supposed to take care of his family."
Troy is very compassionate about his family, his actions may come off as cruel, but there's also reasoning behind his words.
He is responsible in his duty for his family as a provider.
He's also compassionate for baseball. At any given moment, Troy will relate a situation to a baseball rule ect.

Another one of Troy's character traits would be stubborn.
"Now don't you go through life worrying about whether someone like you or not. You best be making sure that they're doing right by you."
Troy wants his son to treat him with respect, more than what kid would do today. Cory had to call him Sir, usually kids just call heir father, dad, but Troy wants that title by Cory, otherwise he'd get mad.
He also wants Cory to be wise when he's older, so something Troy has to hit him with 'truth'

Sometimes I can sympathize with Troy when he is attempts to motivate his family to try to be better.
His strengths are that he is a responsible man. He makes the money for his family, and provides a good living space.
His weaknesses are that he is very stubborn, and doesn't realize when he's being strict.

I chose this art to relate to Troy Maxson, because Troy always relates life to the plates in baseball.
Baseball is a huge role in Troys life, it built, and broke him.

The song that reminds me of Troy Maxson is the song, "Old Dog Blue" by Jim Jackson.
Not only did Troy sing this song often, but there are parts of this song that relates to Troy.
In the song it tells us about his dog Blue, who's a stubborn dog how doesn't listen often.
I chose those lyrics, because it is symbolized towards the end when Cory and his little sister are sitting down after Troy's passing singing this song.

The theme I chose was 'masculinity' I chose masculinity, because a lot of the main conflicts centers around Troy and Cory.
The movie shows how Troy in many ways repeats the mistakes of his own father all while raising Cory.
Fences also questions what the true meanings are being a 'man' reflecting on the duty to your family.

Troy's Motto

What’s important to Troy is being the breadwinner for his family. He was to provide good things into his family, and keep the wrong out. That is a symbol on the fence he’s built. He cares about his son, even though he doesn’t use the correct words to show it, but he’s eager to push Cory to the limits of success.
So the Motto I chose was,
“Love is not words, it’s actions, and love isn’t feelings, it’s a decision.”
