Isabella the I of Castile (Spain) was a great renaissance figure because of her political astuteness, intelligence and the skills of her controlling the throne.

2) In 1469 Isabella of Castile(Spain) got married to Ferdinand of Aragon, together they

united their countries. After that they united all the countries to make a new country which is

Spain now. To achieve that they forced the Jews and Muslims out of Granada to make it all Spanish in 1492.

3) In 1492 Isabella of Castile(Spain) helped Christopher Columbus with his first discovery voyage. Isabella helped Christopher Columbus because she wanted to spread Catholicism to new countries. When Columbus got to America he started encountering(killing) American Indians, but when Isabella found out she punished him.

4) Isabella the I of Spain has also been great leader in a time where women didn’t get much respect and rights. She controlled all of Castile when she was in the throne. When Isabella got married to Ferdinand she didn’t let him take over the throne and rule Castile and Aragon.
5) Isabella’s main legacy can be found in the powerful roles of her children.
When Isabella got married to Ferdinand she had five children. Their oldest daughter Isabella of Aragon, first got married to Alfonso of Portugal and then Manuel I of Portugal to establish more connections with other Spanish nations.
Next John, Prince of Asturias gets married to Margaret of Austria, and for similar political reasons. After them Joanna of Castile got married to Felipe, Archduke of Austria and took the throne after her sibling's death. They had six children. Joanna is still known as ‘La Loca’(The crazy woman) because after Felipe, Archduke of Austria death she went crazy.
Maria of Aragon got married Manuel I of portugal after her sister’s death. The last of all Catherine of Aragon got married very well she got the family connected to Spain and England with a planned union- she, first, married King Arthur VI of England, and then later, King Henry VIII of England. Unfortunately, this husband eventually divorced her. This was a rather rare occurrence in those olden times, but King Henry VIII’s reasoning was that Catherine Aragon was unable to provide him with a male child to the throne, and their union was then thought to be quite useless.
This is why this family is still known very well, they spread their name by marrying their children to other kings and queens of different countries.

Children
1470 -Isabel of Aragon queen of Portugal
30 June 1478-John, Prince of Asturias
6 November 1479- Joanna of castile
29 June 1482-Maria of Aragon queen of Portugal
16 December 1485-Catherine
