I love the eagerness of my students this year. They are ready to learn each and every day. Some of my students had a bad experience with a math teacher last year and are "starved" for knowledge this year. They are like sponges and are eager to soak up everything. I just love my kids!

I've had various challenges the last few years, but this year has been different. It's been wonderful, manageable, and worthwhile. What's different you ask? ME. My attitude. My approach. This year we've had some of the more difficult kids since I got here. My team has 2 new teachers (1 is a first year teacher). I have every reason to be frustrated and down, but the kids keep asking why I'm smiling. I'm smiling because there is nothing I can't handle. I've seen enough to know that it will all work out. The sun will still rise tomorrow. There will still be students to teach. And I will still be needed to teach them. Some will be easier than others, and some will even appreciate me. But regardless, I can and will give them my best every day. I have a good attitude because I choose to. No one can "make" me feel any way I'm not willing to. I choose to have great days and I DO! (I suspect the kids are learning more - data validation to follow....)
- Tom Kyle

Hello Ya'll! I absolutely love when my students light bulb comes on after struggling with a concept. Their love for learning makes my heart happy and is a constant reminder of why I love doing what I do! Even through all the obstacles and struggles with students academically and socially emotionally, I am glad that we as teachers are placed at the right place at the right time in our students lives. - Whoo Hoo!

I have had several students tell me "thank you" for taking the time to explain the math concepts to them. It seems like a little compliment, but it was huge in my world. I naturally build in time for discussion, and change my daily focus to accommodate the classes current level of understanding. Some days we go faster than others. It is when students make these types of reflections and show their appreciation that make teaching great.
-- Nikki Parker
