Technology is such an amazing tool, but what are some ways it can be used with 5 and 6 year old kids that is effective? Most aspects of technology require you to be able to read, so how can students use technology when that is a skill they are just learning?

You could make different activities using technology for the students to do. One idea could be when they are learning the letters and the letter sounds, you could use this activity with five letters at a time. You would take those five letters and have three to five objects for each letter, which would be 15 to 25 objects, that have the same beginning sound for each letter.
The students would have to match the objects beginning sound to the correct letter with that sound. I think this would be a fun activity for the students to do. They would be reviewing each letter and the letter sound and would be learning where each object should be placed.

You could use QR Codes with pictures above them with videos for things like the letter of the week or there is this website called gonoddle.com that has a ton of videos to get kids moving while learning or just to exercise.
And honestly at the preschool my mom works at the three and four year olds are better at using the iPads than some of the teachers.

Technology can help with memorization! There are a lot of programs for tablets that allow students to practice the alphabet and earn points. If they get enough points they can redeem them for prizes! Most of the children that are growing up in this generation have a very good understanding of how to use technology, so you will most likely won't have to teach them that skill. - Jenna Beavers
