1. How are Jafari’s four platforms evident in the development of the Bahamian tourism sector since the 1950s?

- The advocacy is evident in the increase of international stayover arrivals from a level of 39k in 1937 to an increase of 100k in 1953 and 1.1M by 1969 because it was a pleasure tourist destination due to its proximity to the USA and therefore valued for its beautiful beaches, which benefited the Bahamas economically. It also generated enthusiasm from governments because they saw the viability of tourism in a country where agriculture, fishing, mining or manufacturing lacked the capacity to support economic development.
-The cautionary platform is evident in the "oil crisis", the attainment of independence and increased competition from other regional destinations generated a decline in tourist numbers. Other factors generated were loss of cultural identity, sex trade, rising costs, etc. There was no proper tourism planning, which led to saturation and contamination of the tourist destination. For example: Cruise ships began to cause damage to the marine species and the overturism on 3 islands of the archipielago.
-The adaptability platform is evident when overall tourism planning in the Bahamas began to generate solutions to the different impacts generated by tourism in the islands. Their main objective was to expand tourism to a greater degree, thus generating greater diffusions for the other islands of the Bahamas. They began to diversify their products and services and began to focus on sustainable tourism.
-The knowledge-based platform has been evident since sustainable tourism was legally recognized in 1995 by an OEA consultant's report, thus creating the "Sustainable Tourism Unit" which generated various strategies for the practice of sustainable tourism. Also an agreement establishing the Caribbean as a "Sustainable Tourism Zone" which promotes technology, protects culture and resources, and encourages participation of the community. In this way, they began to adequately manage the tourism sector, recognizing the negative and positive impacts caused by tourism and generating optimal solutions for its proper development.

3.a) What opportunities and threats to the Out Islands derive from the proximity of masstourism in New Providence, Paradise Island and Grand Bahama?

Among the opportunities we have:
-Develop a strategic planning from scratch with these potential destinations, to implement sustainable tourism practices in them from the beginning and work with the development of specialized products according to the needs of the demand and focusing on not exceeding the load capacity of said place.
-In addition, due to its proximity to the islands that have been mostly visited, a marketing promotion can be established where the tourist knows that they also have other islands nearby where they can access services that may be more focused on their needs.
As threats:
-It may happen that the communities of these islands do not have the predisposition to serve tourists. And that this is not the activity to which they wish to dedicate themselves.
-Also, it may be that the other islands do not have attractions that are attractive to tourists and that something has to be imposed so that the activity can be developed.
-That the government does not give the necessary support to start the development of tourist activity in the "out islands".

Develop a medium luxury resort where all the employees are natives from the island. Follow a philosophy of giving the guests a full experience of local in a luxury way. But this is could be possible if we develop a process of qualification for all the people involved in tourism.

Also, we can create programs of Community-based tourism, where all the tourists get involved in the different activities of the island with a sustainable awareness. For example, a full-day tour created by locals around the different beaches creates a touristic product based on a tour around the different beaches where the tourist resources and tourist attractions meet becoming an interesting touristic product to the tourists.

Furthermore, the awareness of the tourists about taking care of the place they're visiting is mainly responsible for the local government to develop big strategies for this goal.

We can arrange sustainable tourism on these islands by making responsible tourism planning and responsible touristic products.

2. (a) Using the Internet and other sources, find evidence of the advocacy, cautionary andadaptancy platforms in current Bahamian tourism.

* ADVOCACY PLATFORM
In recent years, the income of tourists has been an almost constant increasing slope. In 2011, income per tourist corresponded to $ 386, while for 2018 this value was $ 511. The percentage of GNP covered by the tourism sector has remained above 20% since 2004, with 2019 being the year with the highest percentage (26.56%) with total revenues of $ 3.61 trillion, the highest figure recorded.
On the other hand, in April 2020, the Bahamas received only 11 visitors by air, however, by April 2021 it received 60,305 travelers. These data translate into the recovery of tourism after the great damage caused by the pandemic, causing the resurgence of companies, jobs, and economic activity in general.

*CAUTIONARY PLATFORM
One of the main problems that tourism has is that it can be seasonal, indicating that there will be months of high demand that bring great income, but also others with little demand and low income. This theory can also be related to the current situation in the tourism world caused by the covi-19 pandemic, a virus that caused the decline in tourism demand for a long period of time, which translates into low income and high unemployment.

*ADAPTANCY PLATFORM
Visitors are increasingly interested in visiting the small islands of the Bahamas. Although the percentage of visits to these destinations does not compete with the large islands, there is still an increase in visitors, creating new tourism opportunities. For example, in January 2020, Andros Island occupied 0.6% of total tourism, while for the same month in 2021 it occupied 1%. Another great example is Bimini Island with 0.3% of total tourism in January 2020, a figure that increased to 3.2% by January 2021.

Through three steps:
The first is introduction and familiarization. It is necessary to make these individuals and organizations aware of what sustainable tourism is and the facts and events that the world and people have had to go through to arrive at their concept.
The second is based on awareness. It is necessary to demonstrate what would happen if the necessary measures are not taken through sustainable tourism, it is necessary to demonstrate the impacts at different scales, on the economic, social, cultural scale, but also on a personal level, how each individual is influenced by the deficiency of adequate tourism
The third is to propose or suggest solutions. For individuals and organizations to take the first step, it is important to support and guide them, which is why it is necessary to show possible factors that could easily improve so that they start the path of change.
