An example of multimodal texts in my secondary subject would be to show an instructional video to perform a task, have the students make notes  then guide the students through the steps via explicit teaching and group discussion.

Multi Modal text in product design and technology can come in many forms from verbal, reading, writing, digital the list goes on. We can use this in our classrooms in many ways from watching you tube clips and digital power points  to reading books, following teachers instructions to hands in practical learning.

Multimodal texts are a varied way of communication, these consist of, texts, visual, can be bilingual with pictures. this process can be used to get our point across to learners easily using images which depict the the learnings. for example you tube clips

These methods include reading from texts, watching short films, group discussions, explicit teaching by demonstration and writing in workbooks.

An example of a multi modal lesson could be:
Introduction - Learning Intention and Success Criteria.
Brainstorm - Existing knowledge. 
Watch a relevant YouTube clip.
Class demonstration.
Practical exercise.
Group reflection - What have we learnt today?

These can be represented in the class room by using resources such as youtube videos, podcasts, reading from text books or online research and setting practical tasks. 

An example in technology for teaching a new skill would be too begin the class with a discussion of previous knowledge of the skill, then watch a you tube video of the task being performed. I would then give the students a demonstration of the task discussing what I'm doing along the way. Multimodal texts in the classroom can take on many forms including visual (reading), viewing and watching, oral and gesture modes of communcation, listening and dramatising all combined with writing, designing and producing texts. 

The five areas of focus when working with multimodal texts are audio, spatial, visual, gestural and linguistic. 

An example for the classroom would be to get the students to create a ‘Work safety advertisement’. This would include the students writing a script, filming the advertisement and producing a voice over. They can then use these advertisements as part of a student-to-student lesson for their peers.
