This Kingdom is struggling with this monster that keeps killing and hurting the king's men. No matter the strongest man that the king has he still cannot kill this monster, so the God the ruler of heaven gives the Kingdom Beowulf the bravest and strongest man alive. The king tells Beowulf about the Monster named Grendel and how strong and powerful this monster is, and how he and his men for so long have been trying to kill it but have not succeeded.

Hygelac's kinsman kept thinking about his name and fame: he never lost heart. Then, in a fury, he flung his sword away. The keen, inlaid, worm-loop-patterned steel was hurled to the ground: he would have to rely on the might of his arm. So must a man who intends to gain enduring glory in combat. Life doesn't cost him a thought. Then the prince of war-geats, warming to this fight with Grendel's mother, gripped her shoulder and laid about him in a battle frenzy: he pitched his killed opponent to the floor but she rose quickly and retaliated, grappled him tightly in her grim embrace. The sure-footed fighter felt daunted, the strongest of warriors stumbled and fell. So she pounced upon him and pulled out a broad, whetted knife: now she would avenge her only child. But the mesh of chain-mail on Beowulf's shoulder shielded his life, turning the edge and tip of the blade. The son of Ecgtheow would have surely perished and the geats lost their warrior under the wide earth had the strong links and locks of his war-gear not helped to save him: holy God decided the victory. It was easy for the Lord, the ruler of heaven, the redress the balance once Beowulf got back up on his feet.

It had gone through many hand-to-hand fights, had hewed the armor and helmets of the doomed, but here at last the fabulous powers of the heirloom failed."

No one has ever been able to kill this monster, so when Beowulf comes for the God ruler of heaven and tells this king that he will kill Grendel but not only kill him, but kill him with no weapons. Beowulf went down to Grendel cave and not only killed him and brought his head up in his teeth but he also killed Grendel's mother as well. With no weapons like he promised.

When Beowulf heard about Grendel, Hygelac's thane was on home grounds, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high-born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan's road and search out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders. Nobody tried to keep from going, no elder denied him, dear as he was to them. Instead, they inspected omens ans spurred his ambition to go, whilst he moved about like the leader he was, enlisting men, the best he could find; with fourteen others the warrior boarded the boat as captain, a canny pilot along coast and currents.

The difference between the original text and the Graphic novel in Beowulf is when Grendel is killed, in the original text a man try's to kill Grendel but failed and Beowulf has to come in and has to save him. Then after Beowulf saves him the man and the man does not see him, instead he sits there wondering who this man is and how he was able to save him.

In the graphic novel Beowulf makes himself very noticeable he walks in and tells everyone who he is and what he has done. He tells all these people that he will kill Grendel and he will prove to them that he can do it, then once he told these people that he was going to kill Grendel he goes down to Grendel's cave and not only kill Grendel but also his mother. He comes up from the water with his head in his teeth

The hero type in the book Beowulf I think is Epic hero because, this hero Beowulf starts the fight and he does not stop until the fight is over. All the people can count on him and to get the job done, and that is what Beowulf can do. He gets the job done and kills the monster that he promised the people of the kingdom he would do.

He goes down to there town and helps them with this monster who keeps hurting and killing these people, so Beowulf helps this man.

I think I like the original passage better because, the way the Author talks about Beowulf's actions rally makes me understand who he is helping these people. Not only does he help these people with the monster that hurts these people but he also saves them from doing something that Beowulf knows he can't do. This man try to fight and kill this monster hunting there land by himself and he gets himself into a predicament that he can't get out of, so Beowulf fights off the monster and helps they man from drowning.

So after seeing that no one could fight off Grendel people stopped trying. I understand why people stopped trying to fight off Grendel because no one could, so when Beowulf comes to the kingdom no one helped him, they all went to watch him fail, but when he came up of that water with Grendel's head in his mouth all those people who didn't help him are all the people who are the anti-hero they didn't try to help they just stood back and waited for him to fail.
