Delilah cuts her long hair to her scalp when her grandmother passes away. Likewise, Samson cuts off his hair when Delilah is stolen away from him presuming her dead. Further research has indicated that sheering off hair in some Indigenous culture demonstrates respect for those lost and to alert others of the loss.
