I definitely will be observing the monthly displays and using them as educational talking points with staff

Whether it was a display of romance books or travel, staff tried to include books that were also by LGBTQIA2S+ authors as well as included in the subject matter. I believe that we do need to include more titles in our collection to better represent our community. The display could have been improved by having different languages represented in the collection that include a wide range of subjects. We have a large Spanish speaking population in our county but very few Spanish items in the collection. Items from the collection were included in an RA list, but at first glance there was very little variation in the types of characters and authors represented. This could be related to the specific subject of the list but should still be examined. We did a good job of representing women authors and women main characters. There is also a book with a perspective on historical injustices that is likely not widely accepted. 

My service area is 92% white and virtually 100% English-speaking. Often, books that fall outside of that demographic do not circulate, even when promoted well. 

I know that there is a very under-represented LGBT+ community here, and that is also still, somehow, a tense issue in the community at large.

We work hard to ensure that our staff include diverse materials in their display, but I feel like there can always be improvements.
