When teaching a lesson, Educators can teach the lesson from different cultural perspectives. For example, word math problems can include examples of food from different cultures- "If Miguel has 3 Tamales, and Gabrielle has 8 Tamales, how many do they have together?" Important points of history can be taught from different perspectives, or include how different cultures- were effected by what had happened. In language arts and writing courses, educators should be made aware of the teachings and background of specific cultures as this will be a time students may write about their cultures, and their norms.

By letting students have freedom with their assignments or lessons, this means they may connect the lesson to their culture, or personal experiences. This will give the educator, and peers a better understanding of the cultural background of that student. Students speaking out to explain their perspective of the lesson helps to promote confidence in that student, and understanding and acceptance from their peers. "As a teacher, you can act as a facilitator and encourage conversation and healthy debate between diverse opinions". (Drexel). This allows students to discuss their perspective, opinions, and ideas about the lesson in a respectful way.

Using diverse language within lessons will make all students feel included and like they have an important part in the lesson. This also will expose peers to the diverse cultures that are present within their peers, and from around the world. Using language such as how students within different cultures- refer to or call their parents or grandparents will make them feel included. Diverse language may give students a better understanding of the content being discussed if they have context stemming from their culture to compare the lesson to as well.

After each lesson, an educator can have students complete a "workshop" or journal. This gives students the opportunity to either answer a critical thinking question asked by the teacher, or just simply write down their thoughts and opinions of what was discussed throughout the lesson. Students that may not feel comfortable speaking in front of others, can take this opportunity to get their thoughts and opinions out and on paper. This allows the educator to learn more about their students and their background so the educator can make lessons that are geared more towards those students cultures (without putting the students on the spot in front of the class).

Building and maintaining relationships with students is important because students are more likely to share and feel comfortable discussing their background, and culture. This allows the educator to learn directly from the students perspective and experiences. This will give the educator to tweak lesson plans so they include every students cultural identity in the classroom as well.

Staying up to date on what is happening around the world is important for the students, and for educational purposes. By staying up to date, educators can discuss what is happening around the world, and students can share their opinions and thoughts on the events taking place. This allows peers and educators to look at worldly events from the perspective of that student and their culture. Depending on the situation, this will give students a different type of respect for one another, and will ultimately teach them to stand up for what is right when the time comes. By doing so, educators can tie current worldly events into the curriculum to give students a better understanding of what the lesson is about.

By decorating the classroom in a multicultural way, this shows students that not only are all welcome, but then the educator can use the "decorations" for teaching purposes, as well. These decorations may include a labeled world map, posters with culturally appropriate quotes, pictures of important people from different cultures. This allows shows students that no matter their culture, background and physical features, that they are all welcome. Hopefully this gives them a sense of comfortability and confidence in the classroom and with their educator.

Educators should be made aware of certain cultures communication methods. Educators can accomplish this by attending a training that spreads awareness of diverse communication methods. It should also give educators tips and examples of how to incorporate these trainings into the classroom. "This includes not just textbooks but also works of literature, artwork, historical narratives, and other sources that represent other civilizations, racial groups, and points of view."

By celebrating Multicultural holidays, this not only creates memories for the students (especially for the student that celebrates the holiday within their culture). But this is an opportunity to expose students to new holidays and traditions. It also allows students to compare their similar holidays and discuss the similarities and differences. I believe students will be interested to learn the history and background of each holiday as they are all unique and carry unique traditions. This creates an opportunity of acceptance, and respect across all diverse holidays.

Group projects allow peers to debate, discuss, and collaborate together on a project. It allows students to discuss their thoughts, opinions, and perspectives on the lesson being taught- and how they would like to demonstrate it in the project. Students may be more willing to share their thoughts in a small peer group setting rather than in front of the teacher and entire class. This allows the students to put their ideas and perspectives together to create the perfect group project in a way that the educator can still learn from them and look at their thought process or experiences in a subtle way.

"Teachers can incorporate diversity and multiculturalism simply and authentically by using literature, games, technology, and community resources." (Hamline University). These materials should represent or come from the cultural norms of different cultures, For example, there's the Greeting Game. In this game students learn how to say "hello" from different parts of the world. Or, "Corre, CorrebLa Guaraca" is a game similar to :Duck, Duck, Goose". Except in this game children are in a circle and have to shield their eyes. The student that is "it" places a handkerchief on a student and has to try to make it around the circle before they realize.

This may give students the courage to speak of their experiences or cultural norms.

Taking students on a field trip can expose them to new or different cultural norms as well. A museum will have displays, pictures and facts that will represent different cultures, and expose kids not only to the different cultures. But to a new experience as well. If a physical field trip is not able to happen, a virtual field trip is also an option. Virtual field trips allow individuals to explore certain places around the world. This way students can see in real time what different places, or structures look like. What kind of people are there and what the cultural practices look like.

It would be interesting to hear their perspective on lessons, or projects that have a multicultural take on them. A monthly or weekly newsletter to discuss the upcoming lessons would be beneficial to parents so they can discuss these lessons with their children. Families may be able to give their perspective on certain lessons as well to help incorporate cultural practices and expose into the lesson. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet and form relationships as well to show their kids that the respect and acceptance of multi culture principles goes beyond school, and is something they will face in all aspects of their life.
